With the increased population and shift in lifestyle, the online retail major Amazon is gaining huge traction. It is immensely influencing the Indian market not only in terms of smart speakers but also in consumer goods segment. Fortifying the smart home speakers- Echo the company announced it is in plan to launch three new devices in India.
IANS reported Tom Taylor, Senior VP, Alexa saying, “India is a very big market for Amazon, not just
for the devices segment but for consumer goods as well.” The company placed its footprints in India in 2013 and transformed the entire retail industry.
At present, the company is holding 30 percent of the market share in India it is also recognized as most visited shopping site in India. After building up its position in India’s e-commerce market it has launched many brand new products like Echo, Prime Video, Kindle, Amazon Pay and others.
IANS stated that according to the International Data Corporation, Amazon Echo led the Indian smart speakers market with 59 per cent share in 2018, followed by Google Home with 39 per cent unit share.
Since its arrival to Indian in 2017, Alexa the smart system is able to understand Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi & Punjabi as well. Interestingly it will also detect multiple contexts and varied regional accents even if mixed with English.
