Today, CEO of Google and Alphabet Sundar Pichai announced that Google would invest INR 75 Crores for the next 5 to 7 years in India. This investment will tremendously accelerate the India’s Digital Economy.
Sundar Pichai also said in his announcement that the Google is proud to support India’s PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India. "This is a reflection of our confidence in the future of India and its digital economy," Sundar Pichai added on a webcast during the annual ‘Google for India’ event.
Pichai has also highlighted that there will be four
major areas that would be focused to bring about the digitalization in India. These four focus areas include:
• Designing and developing new products and service which befits India’s unique requirements
• Offer affordable access and information to every citizens in their own native language
• Reaping the capabilities of various technologies for social good so as to cover various aspects such as healthcare, agriculture, and education.
• Helping businesses to embark in their digital transformation
Pichai also stated, "As we make these investments, we look forward to working alongside Prime Minister Modi and the Indian government, as well as Indian businesses of all sizes to realize our shared vision for a Digital India. Today, 26 million SMBs are now discoverable on Search and Maps, driving connections with more than 150 million users every month. What’s more, small merchants across the country are now equipped to accept digital payments. This has made it possible for more small businesses to become part of the formal economy, and it improves their access to credit.
He added that their goal will be to ensure India not only the benefits from the next wave of innovation, but also help them lead this evolution. Also, he told that by working together, they will ensure better days for the country in coming days.
