Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman the Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, who also happened to be a corporate professional and an economist during her previous stint, announced that the Indian government is now prioritizing farmers’ concern and rural development. While speaking in the 6th World Congress on Rural and agriculture Finance which was jointly organized by NABARD on 12th November, she exclaimed that the current focus would acknowledge their worries and assist them in possible ways.
The plan is looking to recognize the dependence of rural life and agriculture and concentrate on water management and stress points. She also briefed on the utility of the health cards offered to the farmers. Throwing light on the energy security she said that it is an absolute need for the farmers harness energy from solar and wind resources and insisted them to install solar panels in their farms to become Urjadaata from Annadata.
The FM is regulating NABARD to take up required steps to extend support to farmers in Jammu & Kashmir also at Ladakh to yield the crops at appropriate time. “I have requested the chairman of NABARD to visit J&K, so that it can support the farmers there,” she informed.
Earlier the government was focusing on the priorities of fisherman in the coastal and inland water areas. Now it is encouraging NABARD to promote nutrients in the coastal areas. She asked them to collaboratively work with FPOs and SHGs to multiply the nutrition consumption value in those areas.
