Technology is changing the face of the construction industry with every passing day. Thousands of technological stepping stones have been achieved in the construction industry and lot more is yet to come. There are several names in the construction material manufacturing industry but only a few have the assurance in quality and delivery.
UAL Industries Limited [UAL] manufacturer of “Konark” brand Fibre Cement Roofing sheet started its journey initially with only one unit having production capacity of 36,000 TPA in Odisha in the year 1980. Over a period of time, with major Capital infusion for capacity expansion and expansion of distribution network to reach customer’s doorstep, today UAL has three Fibre Cement Sheet manufacturing units located in Odisha, West Bengal and Eastern Uttar Pradesh with combined capacity of 6,50,000 TPA (51 Million Square Meter). Fibre Cement Sheet is manufactured with different varieties of Fibre and Pulp as a reinforcing material and Cement & Fly Ash as bonding material.
UAL is a Regional player and confined to Eastern India catering to six States commanding 40 percent market share. However, on National level UAL is positioned 5th largest Company enjoying 11 percent of market share on Pan India basis.
UAL has expertise in R & D activities related to use of fly ash a pollutant hazard from Thermal Power Station to convert it into useful building product. In the year 2014, UAL diversified into another fly ash based eco-friendly green product - Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Blocks in technical collaboration with HESS, Netherlands pioneer in this field. The unit was set up in an industrially backward area in a village near Bagnan with installed capacity of 3.0 Lacs M3 per annum. AAC has unique characteristics like - good insulation value, sound absorption and lighter in weight when compared with Red Bricks and Fly Ash Bricks. The turnover of the Company during the FY 2019-20 was approx. Rs.500.00 Crores. A step towards using clean & green energy, UAL has installed 2000 KWP capacity roof top solar energy generation system in all its four manufacturing facility.
UAL has adopted zero solid waste and zero water effluent process for manufacturing Fibre Cement Roofing Sheet products. Recognizing UAL’s zero waste & effluent technology excellent pollution control measure and work done for preserving environment and keep ecological balance. In UAL’s recognition in the areas of Pollution Control, clean manufacturing process UAL’s Bengal & Odisha units are recipient of Pollution Control Excellence Award from respective State Pollution Control Boards, TERI & Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Kolkata.
All these growth has been achieved because of the commitment of Sri A.K.Saraf, Chairman & Managing Director of UAL towards sustainable industrialization and protection of environment.
“Fibre Cement Corrugated Roofing sheet is mostly used by rural population and rural economy has not been much affected due to covid-19 pandemic. Government is also giving support to further boost up rural economy by increasing the minimum support price of the food grain, sugarcane etc. Fiscal support is also being directly transferred to farmers by central Govt. thereby the rural economy will continue to be buoyant. As such the demand of fibre cement roofing sheet will continue to grow despite negative GDP”, states Sri Saraf.
The company believes that the requirement of corrugated cement sheet fulfils the dream of a rural person having that ched roof and to replace it by a leak proof, heat, fire and noise resistant, all weather proof, rust free, termite free sheets at affordable price
Core Ideology
The company believes that the requirement of corrugated cement sheet fulfils the dream of a rural person having thatched roof and to replace it by a leak proof, heat, fire and noise resistant, all weather proof, rust free, termite free sheets at affordable price. Fibre Cement Corrugated Roofing sheets fits to his requirement and expectation. UAL with its vast dealer’s network and penetration in the rural market up to Gram Panchayat has provided its customers Konark Roofing Sheets at customers door step.
With the process being calibrated by Integrated Management System [IMS] consisting of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 & OHSAS 45000:2018 and manufactured as per IS 459 UAL ensures excellent quality and that is the reason it has become market leader of Eastern India commanding respect from customers for quality & services. Regular market survey is undertaken by UAL team to get feedback from dealers, customers and end users regarding quality, services and technical support. Based on these feedbacks UAL takes corrective action as and when required to meet customer’s expectation.
During last four decades UAL has become synonymous with trustworthiness on the back of its customer centric marketing policies and UAL believes in philosophy of “customers’ total delight and confidence” and enjoy the benefit by providing suitable after sales service. UAL is catering the demand of fibre cement roofing sheet requirement to rural, semi-urban and urban population.
“Konark fiber cement roofing sheet is the most sought out product in whole of Eastern India for its quality and service. There is a separate technical support team which provides the technical inputs for design of the rural house and application of the fiber cement sheet in most cost effective manner. It also provides training to the masons and the carpenters in the remote areas to develop their skill and application of the product. The technical support team of AAC Block is providing technical inputs to the builders to economize the concrete structure since AAC Block is a lighter material having unique characteristics like - lower thermal conductivity and superior sound insulation etc.”, says the CMD.
Looking Ahead
Fibre Cement Board
UAL is planning to diversify into Fibre Cement Board which is future product for partition, panelling, false ceiling, flooring application etc. At present there is no such plant / manufacturing facility in Eastern India. With urbanization the demand for Fibre Cement Board is likely to grow. In other words we can say this will be green product which will replace plywood – a wood based material in order to protect the Environment and keep ecological balance.
UAL is also going for reinforced AAC panel which will be load / non-load bearing walls, roofs and floors having advantage for speedy construction. Reinforced AAC Panel will also be future product having similar characteristic as of AAC Block and will reduce the labour cost and economise the construction in terms of time, space and speedy execution of big projects. “UAL has planned to add 1,000 KWP in its Solar Energy capacity”, concludes the CMD.
