Technical textile manufacturers are emerging as key players in the evolving landscape of India’s textile industry. Even though they only make up 10 percent of India's textile exports, technical textiles are becoming more popular as demand is driven by industrial expansion and infrastructure development. These materials are becoming essential to industries that need specific, useful qualities such as fire protection, acoustic insulation, and sustainability, with applications ranging from the automotive, healthcare, construction, and geotechnical sectors.
Based out of Kolkata, West Bengal, and established in 2001, Times Fiberfill is a leading manufacturer and exporter of technical textiles and apparel, with a strong focus on sustainability. As the first licensee of Recron from Reliance in Eastern India, the company first entered the market through home technology and expanded its product line to include geotechnical, filter, and insulating products. Today, the company specializes in creating superior technical textiles for thermal insulation, sound absorption, and fire safety for various industries, including protech, mobiltech, geotech, and buildtech. The company uses natural, organic resources such as cotton and wool as well as recycled PET fibers and is certified by OEKO-TEX, the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and the Global Recycling Standard (GRS), guaranteeing ecologically friendly production methods.
What differentiates Times Fiberfill from other competitors in the market is its fully automated production facilities which provide the highest levels of quality and consistency. The company has a production capacity of 10,000 metric tons of technical textiles annually and over 75,000 garments produced each month. “We recognize that quality goes beyond certifications such as ISO 9001 and 14001, and emphasize sourcing, moral interactions with stakeholders, and ongoing development as well. We have also heavily invested in our internal quality assurance systems, including state-of-the-art labs and personnel training programs to ensure consistency”, adds Sumit Mall, Marketing Head, Fiberfill.
The company monitors quality on an ongoing basis rather than relying solely on third-party assessments through a robust in-house testing capability. Times Fiberfill is also committed to adhering to emerging Indian BIS standards for technical textiles, with plans to achieve ISI certification for its geotextile bags and fabrics.
Sustainability at the Core
Times Fiberfill focuses on using sustainable resources, creating items with a significant amount of recycled material. The procedures are equally conscientious, employing thermal and mechanical bonding methods that do not require water, hence lowering resource use and environmental impact. The company is also shifting from non-renewable to renewable energy sources, to have at least 50–60 percent of the energy used in its future facilities originate from solar and other sustainable sources. “The various certifications that we hold such as the Global Recycling Standard (GRS) and GOTS help us achieve a 360-degree sustainability approach. This also avoids green-washing, ensuring true sustainability in materials, processes, and stakeholder involvement”, asserts Sumit.
The biggest challenge in our industry is the urgent need for collective efforts to push forward standardization, as it is essential for growing the market
The Way Ahead
In the future, Times Fiberfill aims to focus on advancing sustainability and innovation via ongoing product development and customer-focused solutions. The company intends to improve its core capabilities in the service sector and provide customized technological textiles that satisfy market demands through customer feedback. Times Fiberfill hopes to increase its competitive advantage and promote long-term expansion and collaborations by substituting cuttingedge, environmentally friendly products for conventional ones.
