S.K Khanna, Founder, Special Cables was extensively involved in the setting up of wire & cable manufacturing plants with complete QC and testing facilities for customers outside and inside India. It was in 1983, owing to the sizeable demand for high quality cables, when Khanna decided to use his know-how to first get telephone, control, instrumentation, data & special purpose cables manufactured under his guidance and marketed the same under the brand name ‘Special Cables’. “We now manufacture the complete range of cables including LT Power Cables, Control & Instrumentation Cables, A B Cables, Mining Cables, and Rubber & Teflon Insulated Cables for highly strenuous applications,” states Khanna.
Emerging Prospects
Along its journey, Special Cables has expanded their product range to DC cables for use in Solar plants & signaling cables for the use in Railways. The company has developed cables in the Fire Survival
category which have been subjected to strict tests at major installations in Delhi Metro and various other Metro railway projects across the country.
The most recent addition to the product range has been the highly flexible Cables for the use of EOT cranes operating under stringent environment. “All the above mentioned cables are the main contributors to our sales apart from many specially designed cables that we also manufacture for our customers such as concentric cables, thermocouple compensating cables, composite cables, Profibus cables etc. To remain innovative and ahead in the market, we are constantly working on newer products every year and shall be adding more products to our product basket regularly. We continue our focus on process and system improvements in each stage of manufacture to remain cost competitive,” says Khanna.

The Road Ahead
With more than 30 years in the market, Special Cables has earned the trust and respect of some of the big names in the industry. With time, the brand got recognition from some of the major industrial giants such as Tata, JSW, NTPC, Power Grid, BHEL, L&T, ABB, Seimens and EIL among various others. Special Cables has been experiencing a growth rate of 20 percent YOY and is proud to cover the entire range of LT Cables that are required by their customers.
Special Cables wants to stay committed to innovation by investing a part of its revenue intoR&D and expects to launch products that still require import substitution in the country. Talking about the future plans, the founder concludes, "We will keep building our customers confidence through continued trust and confidence in our quality & commitment to provide excellent value satisfaction. We are growing our product portfolio and expanding our production base annually. Along with that, we are also looking at exploring possibilities of collaboration with an experienced foreign partner for the manufacture of highly specialised cables and/or acquisition of an entity engaged in such products abroad.”
