Established at Bangalore in 1988, Sansu Automotives is a one stop manufacturer of Aluminum Gravity Die Castings, fully integrating all processes from the manufacture of Aluminum Alloy to Casting, Heat treatment, VMC machining, and Shot Blasting. India represents one of the largest metal casting markets in the Asia Pacific region. The growth of the automotive sector along with the shift to using aluminum instead of cast iron is resulting in a greater requirement for aluminum GDC components. Apart from this, many companies are looking for better alternatives to China for sourcing components and India is emerging as a key player. Many MNCs are poised to enter India and take advantage of the huge market, providing excellent opportunities for growth in the castings industry.
Better quality at a cheaper cost is the primary requirement of customers, along with just-in-time deliveries. Over time, with new automotive regulations coming in, the demand for quality has increased. Sansu Automotives, with an established background in manufacturing castings specifically for the automotive industry, has been meeting requirements for the past few decades, and the company is primed to take advantage of the growing market. Aluminium, being a versatile metal, is increasingly being used in other verticals, and in anticipation of that growth, Sansu is expanding its capability and capacity.
Sansu specializes in GDC, in particular larger castings with a higher quality requirement where shrinkage and porosity are unacceptable. Since high quality aluminum alloys are the basis for good castings, Sansu established an alloy manufacturing unit thereby incorporating backwards integration.
The pandemic disrupted freight logistics and along with shortage of raw materials it led to a steep increase in metal prices. Domestic sources do not completely fulfill the requirement and the Indian government must take steps to alleviate the situation. Increasing fuel prices further add to the cost. Companies must use the help of technology to streamline their operating costs to combat price increases. Sansu is keeping abreast and investing in such technology to ensure sustenance in this ever competitive scenario.
Post pandemic, in 2022, the company has seen a tremendous uptick in demand for castings with many inquiries from high-profile MNCs. "We are a one-stop provider of high-quality gravity die castings, and we are looking to grow both our alloy and castings business with a combination of investment and adding new customers," says Sanjai Singh (An IIT Madras Alumnus), MD & CEO, Sansu Automotives.
