According to Grand View Research, the market for phosphate fertilizers was estimated at USD 61.63 billion in 2021, and from 2022 to 2040, it is anticipated to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.7 percent. This can be related to the rise in demand from farmers for fertilizer that supplies essential elements like nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium.
One of the most renowned producers of phosphatic fertilisers is Rama Phosphates Limited (RPL). RPL began conducting operations in 1982 and has since been involved in the production of phosphatic fertilisers Including mixed fertilisers, such as NPK of various grades, fortified fertilisers, such as boronated single super phosphate (powder and granule), and micronutrients, such as magnesium and sulphate. Additionally, RPL makes chemicals including sulfuric acid and oleum. It also has an oil business that extracts soy oil and adds lecithin as a value-added product.
The Company’s shares are listed in the bourses of BSE and NSE. Their manufacturing facilitiesin Pune, Indore, Udaipur, and Nimbahera are all conveniently placed to cater to the Western Indian region, where phosphatic fertilizer use is most prevalent, i.e. about 62 percent of total consumption takes place.
With acquisition of Nimbahera unit recently, the company’s overall installed capacity currently stands at 6.98 lac MTPA.Moreover, the company is in the process of commissioning of a new fertilizer complex at Dhule which will result in increase in capacity by 2.16 lac MTPA in future.
The company’s Chemical division produces Sulphuric Acid 98 percent and its derivatives like,
Battery Grade Acid, Oleum 23 percent, Oleum 65 percent, Chlorosulfonic Acid and LABSA. The current installed capacity is of 2.09 lac MTPA whilst additional capacity of 90,000 MTPA is envisaged at newly proposed Dhule plant. Recently, Company has also commissioned LABSA plant with 20,000 MTPA capacity at Udaipur plant.
As a part of Green Energy, company has installed solar power generation facility at Udaipur plant wherein 4000 – 5000 units are generated on daily basis. At the same time, Indore and Pune units are self-reliant on TG power generation in the process of Sulphuric Acid production. This results in lesser dependency on external power procurements.
Edible Soy oil extraction and refining facility is operating at Indore, adjacent to Fertilizer complex where value-added product Lecithin is also produced.
“Our mission is multi-products in single-basket”, says Haresh D Ramsinghani, Chairman & Managing Director at RPL.
For future strategy, a new Sodium Silico Fluoride plant is coming up at Indore wherein modernization activities of GSSP plant is also planned. The Company is also planning its foray into new products viz., PDM, Potassium Sulphate, Calcium Nitrate, and more.
Thus, the company’s journey starting with production of a single variety of granulated and powdered Single Super Phosphate fertilizer from single unit has now grown to multi-products from multi-locations. The company’s journey so far is scintillating and aiming to achieve a place in Rs.1000 crore plus bandwagon in the nearest future. Company is maintaining Zero Debt status in spite of huge CAPEX spending in last few years.
