While laymen often take security for granted, it does not come easy - be it for defence, police, businesses or others. Technologically advanced defence gear is a necessity and of critical importance to people who are defending our country or protecting us in any manner. The armed forces have to operate efficiently, flexibly and effectively and for that they need to possess well-equipped gear that can help them in combat. India currently has a growing market for this kind of gear and is now in the forefront, leaving behind other countries who were previously the main suppliers. With the nationalistic spirit and with the aim to help people in defence be gear-powerful is Pragati Defence Systems, A startup involved in developing next generation body armour.
Making Combat Secure
Pragati Defence System is aimed at developing and manufacturing innovative technologies in the defence sector and becoming an industry leader in the armouring segment. It is focused in indegineous design development and manufacturing of solutions of highest quality that can contribute in the modernisation of militaries. According to Naman Agarwal, Founder & CEO, “Pragati Defence is a Quality first, Technology Focused company aiming to set new standards in the industry with our continuous R&D.
We follow strict processes to ensure compliance to stringent quality management systems. All raw materials are subjected to 100 percent inspection for all prescribed standards and lab tests. Our products undergo continuous quality inspections and sampling during various stages of production, packaging and until delivery. We are a licensed ToT holder from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of Indian defence as development and production partner.
Pragati Defence Systems focuses mainly on quality and have developed one of the lightest weighing armour panels against armour piercing 7.62x39 and 7.62x51mm rifle rounds. It does
not cut corners during the selection of raw materials and production to ensure only the best quality products. It invests in a lot of sampling and R&D to develop new kinds of materials, offer options to clients and send out samples for trials. In fact, even after a confirmed order and before the dispatch, Pragati Defence Systems lets clients take random samples to get them tested at a lab in their presence. This has effectively helped in building trust and expanding and have developed one of the lightest weighing armour panels against armour piercing 7.62x39 and 7.62x51mm rifle rounds.
Even with only 1.5 years in this industry, the company has experienced an impressive growth trajectory and has been one of the fastest industries in India to have set up a complete state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Naman Agarwal further adds, “We are in the business of providing armour and we take it very seriously. Quality is paramount to us because quality is integral to the armours working efficiently. Our products go through several checks to ensure that nothing is amiss and everything is in order".
Thorough Manufacturing Process
Pragati Defence is focused on manufacturing next generation equipment with a significant investment towards R&D. The company prioritises quality over quantity and positions itself in the segment for special forces across the world. Pragati Defence Systems focuses heavily on automating the process of manufacturing, reducing manual work and the margin of human error. Even its cutting machines for the fabrics are automatic, and for prototyping it uses laser cutting machines, to ensure that even the prototypes are precise and do not leave any room for human mistakes. Its R&D facility has basic testing machines to check the hardness of materials and an industrial size large 3D printer which is significantly used to make prototypes - for example, Developing weight distribution system for Body armour. The use of this technology and automated systems have enabled the company to cut down on development time significantly, from a few months to a few days, or even a few hours. Pragati does not have to depend on outside facilities or upskill its workers for any new pattern or development, as everything is seamlessly automated.
Pragati is also very conscious of the raw materials used in manufacturing and does not rely on Chinese raw materials. Instead, it sources its raw materials from the best known brands from the Netherlands, Turkey, Israel and the United States. Even after the procurement of the materials, they are scrupulously checked before being used in production. With any roll of material, especially if its special ballistic material, the codes and specificity are noted down and linked to every armour plate or helmet or soft armour panels that are made.

Subsequently, every product carries a QR code which can be scanned to get the batch details of the product During production, another round of QC that involves X-raying the products, is conducted to check for radial cracks, micro cracks, disturbance in integrity, structural integrity et al.
Pragati Defence Systems wants to contribute to India’s vision to be a defence exporting country as it has primarily been a defence importing country so far. It also wants to be in the forefront of exporting body armours and vertically integrate to be less dependent on imports of raw materials.
