The growth in the automotive sector, rapid urbanization and industrialization across the country has been propelling the market growth for the casting industry. However, the sheer lack of skilled manpower poses as a major hindrance to the production of quality casting components. Furthermore, the manufacturing of the machined components involves profuse emission of dust particles and the dearth of technological modernization across the industry makes it difficult to tackle challenges related to pollution. This is where Pillai Group emerged to bring in technologically upgraded manufacturing facilities and a stringent pollution control system armed with a workforce of more than two hundred skilled engineers to ensure the production of quality casting components.
Located at the country’s prime foundry cluster, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, Pillai Group specializes in the manufacture of grey iron and ductile iron castings for industries like automotive, agriculture and earthmoving. With two manufacturing plants
in Shiroli, Kolhapur, they facilitate the production of lightweight castings. Pillai Group built the base of casting manufacturing upon state-of-art facility that is equipped with ductile iron production foundry and advanced laboratory. The company has collaborated with Dana Corporation to supply their products to the international clients as well.
Array of Products & Infrastructure
Pillai engages in the manufacturing of qualitative gray iron and ductile iron castings ranging from 5kg to 100kg. The manufacturing units at Pillai are infrastructured with three induction furnaces, automated sand plants and a good range of CNC, HMC and VMC machines, laboratory with spectrometer, UTM, an image analyser and DISAMATIC facilities. Pillai’s manufacturing system is certified with ISO/TS16949:2002. They also comply with TUV guidelines when it comes to quality management system. Being an environmentally responsible organization, Pillai prioritizes on producing little waste by recycling the sand in possible aspects without compromising on the quality of the products. Along with using metals that are approved by national standards, they also recycle residual iron.
Anu Kumar, Director at Pillai Group adds, “In order to thrive in the casting industry, a company needs to reach out to skilled labours and engineers, and makes sure to convey the rightful revenue to them on time. Taking the work atmosphere of the industry into account, workers need to be assured with medical facilities. In Pillai, we have our employees’ ESI contract and PF covered. We enabled this facility for our subcontracted workers as well. This sort of support system at the workplace motivates them to work”.
Future Endeavours
Pillai is committed to consistent upgradation of their manufacturing facility in order to deliver products of superlative quality at competitive price. They are also working on installing a green foundry with mission to reduce industrial waste and ensure environmental safety. “We are planning to upgrade our production capacity from 800 tonnes to 900 tonnes.
We are setting up a machine shop in our adjoining plant, which is around 24,000 Sqft where we will move our existing machine shop production of 1000 tonnes per month by March or April of 2023. We also hope to reach an annual sale of 1200 tonnes Riddhi castings by 2023. This latest up gradation is specially possible by eradicating space constraints and expanding the facility for several works which is outsourced due to space constraints”, Anu further adds.
