In the evolving landscape of animal husbandry in India, heightened awareness among consumers and farmers alike has ushered in a new era of focus on quality livestock products. This shift, largely driven by increased access to information through technology, has prompted farmers and cattle breeders to prioritize the enhancement of product quality.
Despite these positive developments, challenges persist, particularly in remote areas where the availability and swift delivery of essential medicines for livestock remain a significant concern. Additionally, a shortage of veterinary professionals and concerns about the quality of animal medicines further necessitates the need for a competent firm to navigate these challenges.
Based out of Indore, Madhya Pradesh and established in 1979, Modern Laboratories has become a leader in the field of veterinary medicine, specializing in injectable medications designed for larger animals such as horses and cattle. Beyond essential products, Modern Laboratories stands out for its expertise in niche areas such as narcotic medicines and an extensive range of anesthesia, showcasing its innovative prowess and competitive edge in the market. The organization has shown itself to be a dependable source due to its persistent dedication to quality and compliance, significantly improving animal welfare both nationally and internationally.
What differentiates Modern Laboratories from other competitors in the market is a combination of strategic advantages and a rich legacy spanning nearly 45 years. The company boasts an extensive manufacturing capacity, enabling
the production of a staggering five million tablets per day. This formidable capability, coupled with swift and efficient delivery systems, positions Modern Laboratories as a leader in the industry. “The family-owned nature of our business plays a crucial role in decision-making, enabling swift and strategic policies without third-party interventions. We also have dedicated manufacturing units, with one specifically catering to injectables, which is a distinctive feature that sets us apart from competitors lacking such specialization,” adds Shivanshu Kharia, Executive Director at Modern Laboratories.
Integrating Industry & Education
Modern Laboratories stands as a unique pharmaceutical entity, distinguished by its association with a pharmaceutical college under the visionary leadership of Arun Kharia and Dr. Anil Kharia. This educational institution offers a comprehensive spectrum of courses from playgroup to postgraduate levels, including pharmacy courses and MBA programs. Modern Laboratories is the only pharmaceutical manufacturing company backed by an affiliated pharmaceutical college in the entire country. This synergy creates a distinctive learning environment where students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also witness the practical application of their studies within the pharmaceutical manufacturing unit.

Remarkable Journey of Growth
Founded by late PC Kharia, Modern Laboratories embarked on its journey when he acquired a modest 1800-square-feet manufacturing unit. From these humble beginnings, the company has burgeoned into its present one-lakh-square-feet facility under the stewardship of Arun Kharia and Dr. Anil Kharia, the second-generation leaders who dedicatedly expanded the business. The third generation, represented by Shivanshu, Satyanshu, and Shantanu Kharia, has further propelled the company's global presence by venturing into exports.
Robust Way Ahead
Modern Laboratories is poised for future growth with a focus on innovation and expanding its product portfolio. Recognizing the evolving landscape of veterinary medicine, particularly in affluent markets like Europe, the company is actively working on new molecules to meet emerging requirements. “While conventional products continue to dominate in regions like India, Asia, and Africa, we aim to tap into the European market's demand for advanced and specialized veterinary solutions. With two existing manufacturing units including Nandani Medical Laboratories, we envision a dedicated European Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) plant to cater specifically to the discerning needs of the European market,” concludes Shivanshu.
