Despite rising demands, it is a tough phase for every fastener manufacturer not only in India but all around the globe. Shrinking margins, labour shortages, rising process costs, and insane price fluctuations of raw materials are making it increasingly difficult for fastener manufacturers to survive. To make matters worse, commoditization has made this a dog-eat-dog market where manufacturers are outbidding each other to a point where business becomes unfeasible. This makes many manufacturers compromise on quality, thereby affecting the durability and performance of the product thus hurting the Customers.
The management at Mita Fasteners had foreseen this scenario a decade ago and had taken relevant measures to escape this trap of commoditization. Deipak Shah the MD and CEO of Mita Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. realized that unless they evolved to a strategic partner for their customers, not only would growth be a challenge but survival itself would become an uphill task. Being a Strategic Partner means adding value in a way that fulfils the strategic objectives of the customer. Mita Fasteners focused on 4 pillars to add value to their customers:
Quality
Mita Fasteners realised that pretty soon quality products would no longer be seen as a USP, it would become the basic requirement.
Mita Fasteners has always been obsessed with quality. To walk the talk about their quality, they heavily invested in the infrastructure and built a world-class manufacturing facility that includes a massive 30,000 sq. ft. shopfloor with the finest equipment in the industry, a 10,000 sq. ft. the Plating facility, also a state-of-the-art QC lab ensures that each unit manufactured meets the quality norms.
What’s more, to ensure consistency of this quality they are practicing Six Sigma Methodologies (Current level 5.5) and got certified for IATF16949 as well as ISO 9001:2015 from DQS, whereby the processes are regularly audited by relevant authorities.
The blind trust that their German, Finnish and Swiss customers place in them speaks volumes of Mita’s focus on quality.
Speed: Mita Fasteners knew that “lead times” would be the key factor for the customers. Due to consistent changes in the market, the customers would not be in a position to give a long-term plan, so it becomes essential for its vendors to be fast-paced in order to adapt quickly to the change in demand. Mita was already poised to supply quickly owing to its high-speed Multi Station Bolt Formers and Thread Rollers, however, it further shortened the lead times by bringing all critical processes in-house.
Unlike other fastener manufacturers, Mita can not only control the quality but also cut down on the process time and give far better lead times than industry norms.
Convenience: Mita Fasteners observed that with growth, it was becoming increasingly difficult for the customers to handle multiple suppliers for multiple products thereby affecting productivity. Hence, they decided to provide a whole array of products under one roof, so that the customers need not have to handle multiple entities. Mita Fasteners manufactures and markets High Tensile and Stainless-Steel Fasteners of a range of grades, sizes, and passivity as per defined standards. They specialize in customized and special fasteners that are made as per customers’ specific drawings/ requirements with different types of material. The ranges that they offer are as below:
1) Stainless Steel and Hi-Tensile Fasteners and Industrial Fasteners with Electroplating
2) Hex head screws/bolts/nuts/studs, Socket Set/Head Cap Screws/ Bolts (Hex, C.S.K Button Head Screws) in grade A2/A4 (304/316), Inconel, Monel, Titanium, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, of diameter M4 to M52 and in length - 10 mm to 350 mm.
3) Cold Forged Components as per customer requirements/drawing up to Diameter of 20 mm and Length 300 mm.
At regular intervals, Mita Fasteners adds more products to its portfolio so that the customers need not get hassled dealing with multiple suppliers.
Competitiveness: As the industry is becoming more and more volatile, keeping inventory not only adds to the cost but also takes up precious space. It is also pretty risky because in the event of product absolution or a drop in demand, inventory can become a reason for failure.
This shift from being a supplier to a Strategic Partner has been the cornerstone of the success of Mita Fasteners. It has helped them maintain multiple decade-long relations with their customers. To grow further and keep adding value, Mita Fasteners is consistently making improvements in their Business and Management Practices, Manufacturing & Costing Methodologies, Inventory Management Practices, thus helping add more value for the customers. These changes have helped them substantially outgrow their competitors and set the stage to becoming one of the Top 5 players in our industry.
