As a consequence of the pandemic, the global market for disposable surgical products has multiplied. The Covid-19 contagion pushed producers to derive accelerated production processes that affected the output of devices. The Indian Government modified the rubber surgical device enrollment and brought them into the NPPA (National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority). However, only a handful of the several players are able to meet consistency requirements. Mariya Healthcare is a well-known manufacturer of operating disposable products headquartered in Munnekkar, Palakkad.
Joseph Jose, Managing Director of Mariya Healthcare says, “Basically, the quality of the product has become the main criteria compared to the quantity. Previously, we were manufacturing it as a consumable device, therefore focus was on quantity. Once it has been listed under the medical devices, the whole focus has shifted towards improving the quality and aesthetic standards. We are focused on quality certifications more than ever now because of the industry shift in improving the quality standards.”
Journey in Surgical Disposables Sector
In the initial two years from 2016-2018 Mariya Healthcare was mainly focused on being the bulk gloves supplier to the current major manufacturers and brands. Joseph says, “We were basically focused on manufacturing for other brands and being OEM supplier for other brands and did not invest in building our own prime brand.
From 2018 till date, 98% of our products are manufactured in our brand and we have a direct export to African countries, Nepal, Dubai, and Middle East. Our turnover is about 9.6crores in the financial year which has been a steady growth over these last three years.”
Physical Inspection on every delivery
Mariya Healthcare prides itself on its clientele which comprises AIIMS (Cochin), JIPMER, Pondicherry, KIMS, Trivandrum, KMSCL, Trivandrum and MMHRC, Madurai The major products of Mariya Healthcare currently includes Pre Powdered and Powder Free Latex Surgical gloves, Nitrile and Vinyl Examination gloves (Powder Free) ,Gynaecological Gloves, Three Ply Masks (Elastic/Loop and Tie/Ribbon), Surgical Cap and sisters cap. Joseph adds, “100% manual inspection of each product delivered to our customers is our main differentiation. Many of companies do not have the 100% inspection protocols.”
Joseph continues, “Our main focus is on MerrilPlus Sterile Surgical Gloves (both powdered and non-powdered). We also do the normal latex examination gloves. We supply to the general departments and clinics. Hence, these are the two main areas of our focus currently. We are one of the leading suppliers in terms of quality standards for the above-mentioned two products.
There are several manufacturers in this segment but our competitive edge lies in consistent customer satisfaction mainly attributed to the proper manual inspection for every delivery. We have already received CE Certification for our range of products which will help us market our products across the globe.
The Road Ahead
Joseph concludes, “The kind of volume expansion we are expecting will double our production capability by next year. The main reason behind the two-fold increase in our volume is consistent positive feedback from our customers. Currently, we are not able to meet the customer requirements in terms of quantity which has paced our expansion plans. Our focus on putting ISI mark and other quality certifications is an authentic approach of promoting the value of our brand in the market.”
