Advancing Technological Innovation
As a leading global player, Lear utilizes automation and other advanced manufacturing technologies to provide innovative and customized products for customers.
Lear launched the ComfortMax Seat by Lear™ modular design technology to expand its Thermal Comfort Systems (TCS) product portfolio.
ComfortMax improves manufacturing efficiency through automated assembly, while reducing part complexity up to 50% and delivering as much as a 40% improvement in occupant timeto- sensation in heat and ventilation. Other TCS products include ComfortFlex by Lear™, featuring two or more TCS products, and FlexAir™, Lear’s sustainable alternative to traditional polyurethane foam.
Lear was also named a 2025 Automotive News PACE Award finalist for its Zone Control Module featuring a highly configurable software solution. These innovations represent a significant step forward in automotive design and performance. To achieve new levels of operational excellence, the company launched IDEA by Lear. Employees have been challenged to Think Differently, Take Ownership, and Move Quickly to identify areas throughout the company where they could leverage innovation, digitization, engineering and automation to improve the workplace safety and ergonomics, product quality, and operational excellence.
Driving Sustainability Forward
Lear also places a high priority on sustainability. The company intends to realize a 50% reduction in Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) carbon emissions and 100% renewable energy for electric power consumed at global facilities by 2030. By 2050, Lear aspires to eliminate emissions and achieve net zero.
Lear is focused on integrating sustainability into its product development strategies and processes. As part of the company’s formal design reviews for any new product or manufacturing change, engineers complete a checklist designed to identify sustainable content, such as lightweight materials, miniaturized or integrated features, as well as environmentally friendly processes, packaging, and transportation. The company currently holds more than 1,130 global patents and pending patent applications for sustainable products and manufacturing technologies.
Sustainable Products
The company has also introduced more sustainable products such as ReNewKnit™ for Seating. This first-to-market automotive textile is fully recyclable at its end of life and is manufactured solely with recycled materials at Lear facilities using 100% renewable electricity.
FlexAir™ is a 100% recyclable non-foam alternative that has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50% and reduce weight by up to 20%. In E-Systems, Lear has developed products such as the Intercell Connect Boards and Battery Disconnect Units which enhance the performance of electric vehicles.
All of these products were made possible by Lear’s talented people across the globe. The Lear team believes the best way to deliver the highest quality products is to maintain a work environment that fosters collaboration, inclusion, respect, and excellence.
