The requirement of eco-friendly packaging tapes is sky-rocketing by 8-9% every year in India. BOPP & PVC packaging tapes are being rapidly replaced by eco-friendly, plain and reinforced gummed paper tapes in industries including FMCG & E-commerce. Catering to this huge demand in the market, Alvi Packaging Industries is (in the process of) manufacturing reinforced gummed paper tapes and offering it to the clients in large scales. Previously, the eco-friendly gummed tapes had to be imported from abroad at higher rates.
However, Alvi Packaging is giving a boost to the ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ & ‘Make in India’ campaign, manufacturing the tapes in India and offering it to the customers at affordable rates. ‘Our customers now have access to the best quality eco-friendly & bio-degradable Paper tapes at affordable price in India. We are eliminating their need to stock up huge inventories as well’, says Syed GhufranAlvi, CEO, Alvi Packaging Industries.
Alvi Packaging Industries offers its packaging & sealing solutions to industrial packaging, including box sealing and packaging, product branding, and more. Since its inception in 1984, Alvi Packaging Industrieshas vigorously researched and developed eco-friendly gum-based paper tapes. Although the company had its own share of
struggles in the initial phase, but it never compromised on its vision and did not resort to manufacturing BOPP and PVC packaging tapes to sustain its business.
In 2000, Alvi developed its first eco-friendly tape that replaced the use of metal pins in plywood & wood veneer manufacturing. The plywood and wood veneer industries have also been benefitted with Alvi’s offering as it has been the best substitute for their huge and costly tape imports. In the year 2005, Alvi Packaging developed its vegetable starch-based adhesive system which was first of its kind in India and had successfully replaced animal glue-based adhesive system.
A decade later, in 2015 the company developed a very unique fast-setting adhesive tape for sealing and branding of the Gypsum Boards for MNCs operating in India. Five years down the line, in 2020 Alvi started developing its 100 percent eco-friendly and reinforced gummed paper tapes as a pioneer in India. This product is expected to replace the BOPP tapes completely in the market and is projected to be launched in April 2021.

The company with its unmatched product has successfully placed itself among the top three eco-friendly industrial tape manufacturers in India. ‘With more and more FMCG & E-commerce giants moving towards eco-friendly packaging solutions, we are expecting to seamlessly meet their huge demands and become the market leader in the coming 2-3 years’, says Syed.
Alvi Packaging has witnessed constant growth throughout its tenure in the market. With a few European countries banning the use of BOPP and PVC Packaging tapes, Alvi is endeavouring to penetrate the pharmaceutical sector in the region. Alvi’s clientele includes Century Ply Group, Green Ply Group, Austin Plywood, Kamlang Veneer, Saint Gobain Gyproc, USG Boral. Currently it is looking at creating micro pore tapes that are used widely in the medical industry.
‘Our goal is to keep improving the quality of our products, replace the use of plastic tape in the packaging industry and eliminate the dependency on imports of bio-degradable tapes’, concludes the CEO.
