The demand for disposable medical garments or disposable medical fabric has increased over the years, and it has become a significant requirement in the healthcare and hygiene sector. Being a pioneer in this aspect, Alpha Foam Limited came up with the concept of manufacturing nonwoven fabrics to meet the need of the healthcare industry at a large scale. “We are the first to bring and distribute the nonwoven fabrics when people were unaware of the importance of the product. We have been manufacturing the entire range of nonwoven including Spunlace, Spunbond, SMS, and Melt Blown for the last 15 years”, says Apurva Ranka, Technical Director, Alpha Foam.
Starting as a small manufacturing unit for nonwoven products, Alpha Foam slowly gained its position in the market and manufactured varied products at a large scale. It also has manufacturing facilities providing coatings of LDPE, PP, and TPU for the nonwovens that it produces. “We have the capability of delivering a complete solution for every nonwoven application used in the hygiene, medical and automotive industry”, Apurva adds. Starting from producing Spunbond, Alpha Foam slowly added other products to its manufacturing unit. By taking a
step ahead, it produced Spunlace specifically for the hospitals. It understood the needs of Spunlace in the industry and thus increased its production capacity from 50 tons to 300 tons, thus meeting all requirements of the healthcare sector. Later, it brought cotton Spunlace into its business by realizing the demand for cotton products.
The next product line for Alpha Foam’s growth was Spunmelt which includes the SMS line, SSMMS line, and SMMS line. Spunmelt has been built to cater to the hygiene and healthcare sector and it is designed to produce high volume hygiene products. The fabric and about 2400 tons in a month. The manufacturing facility however laboratory to check and control the quality of its nonwoven products as per the EDANA and INDA standards. Investing in the implementation of the next-gen technology, it delivers its products to a range of customers starting from 10 tons of products to 200 tons of products. It has even exported its products to Japan as well.
Armed with immense knowledge about the products needed in the nonwoven industry, Apurva also shares that the process and technology implemented in Alpha Foam are best among the rest. “I am a Chemical Engineer from the University of Minnesota and have a degree in biotechnology from University of Pennsylvania. My father Rajiv Ranka is a Mechanical Engineer from BITS Pilani. Therefore, our technical knowhow has helped us to carry out indepth research about a technology and then recruit those to help the Indian nonwoven industry grow”, Apurva proudly confirms.
