What Are Probiotics
Probiotics are a combination of live beneficial bacteria and/or yeasts that naturally live in our bodies. Bacteria is usually viewed in a negative light as something that makes you sick. However, we have two kinds of bacteria constantly in and on our bodies — good bacteria and bad bacteria. Probiotics are made up of good bacteria that helps keep our body healthy and working well. This good bacterium helps us in many ways, including fighting off bad bacteria when we have too much of it, helping us feel better.
Envisioning the health benefits & its market potential of Probiotics, in the year 2004, Jhaver Group founded Allianz Biosciences Pvt Ltd (ABPL) as a unique one-stop facility for probiotic research and manufacturing. The facility was built using Japanese designs and its products were dedicated to manufacturing & developing high-quality probiotic formulations. The facility, located in Pondicherry, which has been dubbed the French Riviera of the East, meets global quality standards. The team at ABPL comprises qualified microbiologists with decades of experience in Probiotic R&D with a cutting-edge state-of-the-art modern facility set up by Allianz Biosciences. Over the past 2 decades, the team have been trained by international experts in the field of probiotics from Japan, Denmark and USA as well.
Elucidating about the quality of manufacturing, Mr Bharat Jhaver, advisor to ABPL, emphasizes that, “Probiotics are extremely sensitive to its manufacturing process and at ABPL, we believe that every pill that is manufactured should meet its label claim till the end of its shelf life.” On a lighter vein, he often shares with the team that: “At ABPL we work with the principle of Japanese quality at Indian prices. Over a period of time, ABPL has received several accreditations from SGS Geneva with ISO 9001 – 2015, FSSC 22000, ISO 45001 apart from WHO-GMP.
ABPL has been approved by various international regulatory bodies for the supply of the products to their countries. Some of them are European, Latin American, South East Asian countries. Quality is the promise of our product at ABPL and the team is devoted to manufacturing formulations for customers that satisfy their predefined criteria and continually improving the quality through its robust Quality Management Systems. We recently celebrated our 15 progressive years of offering high-quality manufacturing & creative packaging solutions in 2020.”
Probiotic Research & Development
As mentioned earlier, Probiotics are highly sensitive organisms and needs to be treated and handled very carefully through their manufacturing process. ABPL has been able to put up many probiotic friendly process control methods that assist these bacteria transit through the full chain of production without losing their efficacy, allowing them to guarantee life until the end of shelf life after months of R&D.
With the state-of-the-art R&D facility, ABPL is undertaking pioneering work in the fields of probiotics and nutraceuticals and has developed several first-in-the-world dosage forms. Some of these novel formulations help in being able to formulate technically non-compatible ingredients using novel cap-in-cap/sachet-in-sachet technologies to maximize benefits to our consumers. Post several years of ongoing development, ABPL today manufactures probiotics in the form of capsules, sachets, mouth melt stick packs, dry syrup, special vegetarian capsules, cap-in-cap, sachet-in-sachet, Oro-dispersible tablets etc.
Contract R&D – Combining Probiotics With Herbs
When a novel yet difficult project of combining herbal substances with Beta Glucan and probiotics arose lately, ABPL stepped up to resolve the challenge of one of India’s largest FMCG companies. The challenge was to ensure that the probiotic doesn’t lose its efficacy and the optimum quantum of the herb is also available in the product for the same to be efficacious. ABPL along with the customer developed and refined the methods/process to guarantee that the client's desired label claim of beta-glucan was included in the final product and using ABPL’s expertise the probiotics were also formulated to ensure their stability in the combined formulation. This product's successful commercialization is yet another feather in ABPL's cap.
Ongoing Development
After years of painstaking R&D, this year, Allianz Biosciences has been able to successfully complete the challenging task of developing an “End-to-end” liquid probiotic product containing poly-antibiotic tolerant strains that match qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the international strain. The product efficacy and studies are undertaken at leading institutes in India and the results of the same are promising. ABPL will shortly launch these in the Indian market after receiving due approvals from the authorities.
Manufacturing Facility
Over the years, ABPL has grown its facility from 2 manufacturing lines in 2004 to 14 manufacturing lines as of 2021. Over these years the company has evolved into becoming one of the top probiotic companies in the Asia Pacific.
