The Aerospace and Defence (A&D) market in India is estimated to reach around $70 billion by 2030 as the momentum is expected to further pick up with improving infrastructure and government thrust. An example of a company significantly contributing to this growth is Aerospace Engineers (AEPL), headquartered in Salem. AEPL is a technology-driven company designing, developing, and manufacturing components and subsystems for the aviation, aerospace, defense, and healthcare industry established in 2000.
AEPL is a one–stop solution provider with various enhanced capabilities to support the growing needs of the Global market. Its broad range of capabilities includes a prestigious AS9100D, world–class NABL/ISO 17025 certified in–house facility, NADCAPapproved chemical processing and fluid distribution facility, FOD-free area, and ZED gold-rated organization. AEPL strongly believes in indigenization and over the last three decades, it has developed more than 15000 parts through indigenization out of which 12000 are non-metallic.
It has also developed mission-critical products like Canopy Seals, Fuel/ Oil Handling Valves, Pumps & High- Pressure Hoses, Mask Hose Assembly, Rubber Fuel Tanks, and more, for several fighter aircraft and rotary winged aircraft. AEPL has developed more than 122 types of Rubber Compounds, duly approved by CEMILAC meeting
Airworthiness and International Specifications, and Aircraft Seals for use in CivilAircraft/Helicopters.
AEPL is a DRDO Qualified Manufacturing Partner for several critical Missile sub-systems like AKASH (Variants), BRAHMOS, LRSAM, and some classified weapon systems including those deployed under water. “Our accurate technical testing devices have earned us numerous certifications from reputed organizations such as NADCAP, CEMILAC, NABL, ISO, and others, and helped us ensure product integrity in everything we do.
We are committed to quality, and unparalleled customer service and ensure on-time delivery. This has made us the ‘supplier of choice’ for industry giants such as Boeing, HAL, Wipro, and TATA”, says Sundaram Ramaswamy Naidu, Founder, and MD of Aerospace Engineers.
Ahead of the Curve
The journey to becoming AEPL began while Sundaram was working with a private company in the rubber industry. He saw the potential and started a venture of his own – Elastomeric Engineers catering to the power sectors. Soon after, he met Dr. Kalam in Bengaluru at an event and after a brief conversation with him, he realized the potential that rubber had in the Aerospace industry.
Aerospace engineers is a leading manufacturer of a variety of rubber compounds for the aviation, aerospace, defense, & healthcare industry
So he researched the same, got all the certifications in place, and together with HAL started the manufacture of high Precision Rubber and Composite Moulding. Currently, AEPL has significant longterm contracts with Boeing, Honeywell, Armament Authority of Egypt which truly signify its growth. As a recent development to fight against COVID-19, it developed about 75 parts and supplied about 30,000 sets of Ventilators and compressors within a span of 45 days. “We plan to have an exclusive refined Research and Development Centre with International standard testing facilities.
Innovation and diversification is the key to making India self-reliant. As a significant step towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat, we have started a separate division called the ‘Advanced Under Sea Systems Division’ to fulfill the rising needs of subsea naval warfare. The recent recognition of the State Government of Tamil Nadu deeming AEPL as the best Entrepreneur at the District Level keeps reminding and strengthening our responsibilities and convictions”, concludes Sundaram.
