Zetwerk Electronics, part of the $2 billion Zetwerk Manufacturing Group, launched its biggest electronics manufacturing plant close to Chennai on Saturday. Located in Pannur, 55 km from the town in Tiruvallur district, the 15-acre site will greatly improve India's position in the worldwide Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) industry.
According to Amrit Acharya, CEO & Co-founder of Zetwerk, it also supports India's objective of reaching a $500 billion ESDM market and Tamil Nadu's aspiration to evolve into a $1 trillion economy.
The new plant will concentrate on manufacturing control boards for appliances like washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioning units, and IT equipment. It features cutting-edge production capabilities, comprising five Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) lines, Manual Insertion (MI) lines, potting, conformal coating, and extensive testing facilities. When operating at maximum capacity, the facility is anticipated to hire approximately 1,200 qualified employees.
The opening of the facility was conducted by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Railways, and Information & Broadcasting. In his speech, Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of Zetwerk’s seventh factory and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enabling Indian firms to emerge as global leaders in electronics production.
Tamil Nadu's Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa, highlighted that the state is at the forefront of electronics manufacturing in the country, accounting for 36% of the national exports. He stated that investments from modern firms such as Zetwerk improve the state's manufacturing landscape and support in its aim of boosting yearly electronics exports to ₹100 billion.
