The Tripura government will build a 120 MW combined cycle petrol turbine (CCGT) power plant with funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Debasish Sarkar, the managing director of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL), announced that a gas-based thermal power facility in Rokhia, part of the Sepahijala district, would be increased from 63 MW to 120 MW using the "Capacity Augmentation" technology. "The power project's initial cost was Rs 770 crore, but it
is currently at Rs 840 crore. ADB would contribute money at an 80:20 ratio. The project would also receive funding from the central and state governments, "added Sarkar. He stated that the power project, for which a global e-tender has already been requested, is currently undergoing the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
This power project would produce eco-friendly energy in addition to being more technologically and economically viable. Most importantly, it would lower the cost of production, which would aid in lowering consumer electricity rates. As part of the "Tripura Power Production Upgradation and Distribution Reliability Improvement Project," the ADB had already agreed to contribute Rs 1,925 crore.
Sarkar, the TSECL currently owes a total of Rs 566.82 crore. In order to collect this unpaid balance, TSECL has greatly improved spot collection capabilities, intensified door-to-door customer outreach efforts, and created additional digital services like UPI, the Bidyutbandhu App, and a web portal. Also, the TSECL has hired new energy billing companies throughout Tripura in order to raise the billing percentage with accuracy and quality through the taking of images of energy metre readings.
