Tata Electronics will establish a display manufacturing facility in Gujarat in collaboration with Taiwan's PSMC and Himax Technologies, as stated by a senior company official on Wednesday. At the IESA Vision Summit, Randhir Thakur, the CEO of Tata Electronics, revealed the signing of a tripartite agreement with the Gujarat government for the factory.
"Today, I am delighted to announce signing of an MoU between Tata Electronics, PSMC and Himax to revolutionise India's display product and technology ecosystem. With PSMC's proven technology, Tata Electronics will manufacture display chips for Himax in Dholera, Gujarat," Thakur said.
By entering the display manufacturing sector, Tata Electronics will be involved in all three leading segments of semiconductor production. Through this action, Tata Electronics aims to create a presence in all three key segments of semiconductor production. The firm is currently working on establishing a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Gujarat with an investment of about ₹91,000 crore. Moreover, it is allocating ₹27,000 crore to set up a semiconductor production plant in Assam.
Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) ranks as the seventh largest pure-play foundry globally, operating four 12-inch and two 8-inch fabrication plants in Taiwan, with an annual production capacity exceeding 2.1 million 12-inch equivalent wafers.
The establishment of the new display production facility represents a crucial advancement in India's expanding semiconductor sector and is in line with the government's goal of enhancing the nation's electronics manufacturing strengths.
