Two-wheeler manufacturer Royal Enfield has opened its first warehouse in the eastern region to meet the demand for spare parts, a company spokesperson said on Dec 11. Setting up a warehouse near Kolkata will greatly reduce transit time for supplying motorcycle parts and help develop channel partners.
It has a warehouse of 50,000 square meters in the Bagnan area of the Howrah district and supplies spare parts to all the eastern and northern regions. Regarding exports, the spokesman said that the US USA is the largest export market for two-wheeler manufacturers, accounting for 45 percent of total production, followed by Europe, West Asia, and Africa with a 35 percent share. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 20 percent of Royal Enfield's total exports, he said.
More than 27 percent of Royal Enfield's overall sales in the country come from the eastern region, the spokesperson added.
Royal Enfield is an Indian multinational motorcycle manufacturing company headquartered in Gurgaon. The Royal Enfield brand, including its original English heritage, is the oldest global motorcycle brand in continuous production. The company operates manufacturing plants in Chennai in India.
In August 2015, Royal Enfield Motors announced it was establishing its North American headquarters and a dealership in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with the intention to offer three bikes, the Bullet 500, Classic 500 and Continental GT 535 Cafe Racer, as they feel this engine size represents an under-served market. The dealership will be Royal Enfield's first company-owned store in the U.S., according to Rod Copes, president of Royal Enfield North America.
