Manish Sharma, the head of Panasonic India, emphasized the pressing need for a separate production-linked incentive (PLI) for the air conditioner industry, focusing on high-value components like compressors and motors, in response to the industry's demand.
Concerning the government's recent PLI scheme for passive or non-semiconductor electronic components, Sharma, the Chairman of Panasonic Life Solutions India, stated that it will promote industry development and improve its competitive edge in global markets.
On March 28, the government approved a production-linked incentive scheme for passive or non-semiconductor electronic components with a budget of Rs 22,919 crore. This is the primary initiative designed to promote the manufacturing of passive electronic components.
Currently, India acquires non-mobile electronics worth USD 12-13 billion. He mentioned that approximately USD 5-6 billion in PCBs (printed circuit boards) are brought in from abroad for assembly in this location.
"Currently, the sector is receiving support." Sharma informed PTI during the launch event of the company's initial smart home experience centre that we ought to begin filling those combined elements... the heat sinks, passive components, capacitors, resistors, and so forth.
Sharma emphasizes that for India to genuinely begin manufacturing components at home, it needs to prioritize enhancing the production of PCB boards solely within the country.
