On Monday, NTPC revealed its intention to invest Rs 96,000 crore in Chhattisgarh throughseveral agreements made with the state government to establish clean energy initiatives, which include nuclear power. According to a statement from NTPC, additional projects will involve pumped hydro and renewable initiatives utilizing solar, wind, and hybrid resources in the state.
"NTPC Group to invest Rs 96,000 crore in Chhattisgarh. NTPC, along with its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), today signed multiple agreements worth Rs 96,000 crore with the state government at Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit-2025 held at Raipur," it said.
The initial memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between NTPC Ltd. and the Chhattisgarh government to establish a 4,200 MW Nuclear Capacity in Chhattisgarh with an expected investment of Rs 80,000 crore.
The second MoU was executed between Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) and NTPC, regarding a plan to invest about Rs 5,876 crores in establishing a 1,200 MW Pumped Hydro Storage Project in Sikaser, located in the Gariyaband district of the state.
The third Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) was established between NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) and CSPGCL to create renewable energy projects totaling up to 2 GW in the state, with an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore.
It will assist in fulfilling the renewable generation obligation (RGO) of CSPGCL and the renewable purchase obligation (RPO) of the Chhattisgarh discom.
The contracts were executed in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu DeoSai, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Energy Subodh Kumar Singh, MD CSPGCL Sanjiv Kumar Katiyar, along with other state officials.
