Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reached a major milestone, with its Manesar facility crossing the 1 crore cumulative production mark. The landmark vehicle to roll off the production line was the Brezza, a compact SUV, which highlights the company's growing presence in the SUV market.
The Manesar plant, operational since October 2006, achieved this milestone in 18 years, making it the fastest among Suzuki's global automobile manufacturing plants to reach 1 crore units. Spread across 600 acres, the facility produces a range of popular models such as Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Ciaz, Dzire, Wagon R, S-Presso, and Celerio, catering to both domestic and international markets.
Exports from this facility span Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and neighboring Asian countries. The plant played a critical role in Maruti Suzuki's global expansion, having manufactured the Baleno, the first passenger car exported by the company to Japan.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, emphasized the company's focus on local manufacturing of components and its contribution to the self-reliance and competitiveness of the Indian automobile industry. The plant has provided both direct and indirect employment opportunities to millions, reinforcing its role in the Indian economy.
This achievement strengthens Maruti Suzuki's production capability, which now stands at 2.35 million units annually. Since its inception, the company has produced over 3.11 crore vehicles, further cementing its leadership position in India's automotive industry.
