The inaugural edition of The Energy Transition Dialogues (TETD), organized by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) in collaboration with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), is set to take place from November 1 to 3, 2023, at the Hyatt Regency in New Delhi. TETD will focus on constructive discussions based on the experiences gained from initiatives revolving around six key themes: increasing renewable energy and battery energy storage systems (RE/BESS) capacity to reach 50GW annually, upscaling energy efficiency, modernizing utilities, decarbonizing transportation, ensuring a people-oriented energy transition, and promoting clean energy financing. The event will culminate in a shared statement that will act as a guide for clean energy transitions through cross-sector partnerships.
India's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 has gained global recognition, particularly in the context of leading the way for developing nations. The Dialogues are a noteworthy step toward a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future. It's crucial that the transition to clean, renewable energy is both inclusive and focused on the well-being of people. Given India's status as the most populous country, a successful transition would serve as a valuable model and inspire the rest of the world. These Dialogues are part of a broader effort to embrace clean energy, work towards sustainable development, and enhance climate resilience. We hope that the specific challenges associated with this transition in both India and the world are addressed, and solutions are devised during the event, as stated by Saurabh Kumar, Vice President – India, GEAPP.
The Dialogues are anticipated to feature the participation of over 300 speakers and attendees from various sectors, including top government officials, decision-makers, finance professionals, the private sector, the development sector, civil society, and academia, from both India and other countries. India has made substantial progress in implementing green energy solutions across different sectors. However, the transition to a new green energy economy must align with the aspirations of India's populace and the global community. This alignment necessitates comprehensive discussions about energy transitions and forward-looking actions that go beyond energy policy. This inclusive and holistic approach ensures that the benefits of the energy transition are accessible to all stakeholders.
GEAPP and ORF are eager to bring together a diverse range of perspectives and global expertise to facilitate meaningful change and accelerate the shift to a sustainable energy future. Additionally, The Energy Transition Dialogues offer India a distinctive opportunity to showcase its remarkable progress on the global stage. By highlighting exemplary practices and enabling factors, India can set a precedent for other nations to embrace similar sustainable energy solutions.
