The Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) has officially presented to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to extend the Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) scheme for aluminum manufacturers working under Advance Authorization (AA), Export Oriented Units (EOUs), and Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
This latest demonstration follows a similar request by the Aluminum Association of India (AAI), concentrating on the Finance Minister. According to FIMI, this policy lapse places Indian aluminum exporters at a cost disadvantage, declining their position in competitive global markets.
The delay in restoring RoDTEP benefits for AA, EOU, and SEZ units has already begun to disrupt production, threaten job security, and prompt potential scale-backs in output. India, as the second-largest aluminum producer globally, if policy clarity and incentives are not swiftly restored. Both FIMI and AAI have warned that the absence of extended RoDTEP support could severely affect the sector's contribution to export performance and industrial growth.
Aluminum producers are advising the government to provide well-timed authorization to support effective planning, protect market share, and maintain their global commitments. Industry stakeholders are unclear due to the lack of formal notification on the continuation of RoDTEP benefits.
FIMI's demand also highlights the national interest. Restoring and continuing RoDTEP support, it claimed, is essential not only for the aluminum sector but also for advancing India's determination to become a leading global manufacturing hub. Brought into line with the government’s “Make in India” vision and the goal of industrial self-reliance, the measure is seen as critical to boosting export competitiveness and long-term economic resilience.
