In Mumbai, the Ministry of Coal will host a seminar titled "Just Transition Roadmap" as part of Coal India's (CIL) G20 Presidency. According to a statement from the Ministry of Coal released on Sunday, the three-day seminar will be staged at the Jio World Convention Centre as a side event of the Third Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) meeting of the G20 Presidency of India.
One of the ministries taking part in the ETWG discussions of the G20 is the ministry. The ETWG conducted its inaugural meeting in Bengaluru in February, followed by its second gathering in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, in April 2023. The Third ETWG meeting, which takes place in Mumbai from May 15–17, 2023, will continue the discussions on topics connected to the energy transition. Roadmap will be followed by a panel discussion session. The panel discussion and opening ceremonies will be presided over and moderated by Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena. During the conference, presentations on the Just Transition elements will also be given by the World Bank and the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI).
The event aims to encourage an open discourse amongst important stakeholders. The seminar will examine strategies and initiatives to ensure a smooth and equitable transition away from fossil fuels, particularly coal-dependent economies, to more sustainable energy sources without jeopardising the country's energy security, the ministry announced on Sunday.
A movie showcasing eco-friendly and sustainable activities in the coal business will be shown during the session. The G20 Special Edition of MineTech on "Just Transition" as well as three booklets on bio-reclamation or planting, eco-parks or mine tourism, and the study report on best worldwide practises for just transition in the coal sector will all be published.
Experts from India and outside will have the ideal forum to share their knowledge, practical wisdom, and best practises about just transition at the event. According to the announcement, participants will take part in interactive workshops and panel discussions. Government representatives, foreign specialists, business titans, and eminent academics are among the dignitaries expected. According to the statement, the occasion would promote active debate, knowledge exchange, and cooperation among participants to build a group strategy.
