Bharat Electronics, a manufacturer of defense electronics equipment, has been awarded a contract worth Rs 2,463 crore by the Ministry of Defense to deliver Ashwini Radars for the Indian Air Force, as stated by the corporation in an exchange filing dated March 12. These indigenous mobile radars are developed jointly by BEL and DRDO and are capable of 4D surveillance with advanced features and are deployable in all terrains.
Ashwini Radars can detect and track aerial targets ranging from fighter aircraft to slow-moving targets, said the company in its statement. Now, with this order win for an LLTR, BEL's order book for FY 2025 stands at Rs 17,030 crore.
"LLTR (Ashwini) is active electronically scanned phased array radar based on state-of-the-art solid state technology. The radar is capable of tracking aerial targets from high-speed fighter aircraft to slow moving targets such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and helicopters. Its acquisition will significantly enhance the operational preparedness of the Indian Air Force," government's statement on the radar deal said.
