According to a report, US automaker Ford plans to re-enter India with a major focus on electric vehicles. The Hindu Business Line claimed that the carmaker, which existed in India in 2021, plans to use Chennai manufacturing facilities.
Meanwhile, another report from the Times of India suggests that Ford has filed design patents for a sleek, modern midsize SUV poised to compete with popular models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
Recent filings indicate that the company has patented the design for its upcoming Endeavour SUV, which will carry the 'Everest' moniker. Ford is actively recruiting personnel for its Chennai factory.
Furthermore, Ford has secured the trademark for "Mustang Mach-E" in India, sparking speculation that it might introduce its electric crossover to rival other premium electric vehicles like the Mercedes EQE, BMW iX, and the Audi Q8 e-tron.
Previously, the American auto giant had engaged in discussions with the JSW Group to sell its Chennai plant but has since postponed those plans indefinitely.
Ford India Private Limited was a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company for its operations in India. Its India Private Limited's headquarters is in Sholinganallur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It also operated integrated manufacturing facilities in Sanand, Gujarat.
