In India, the Anti Counterfeit Packaging (ACP) market has grown vastly over the last few years due to increased consumer and business awareness regarding the harmful effects of counterfeit goods. This is why robust anti counterfeit packaging solutions are in demand in industries like pharmaceuticals, electronics, FMCG, and automotive where counterfeit products are posing a risk to consumer safety, as well as brand reputation. The growing demand for secure packaging in India’s e-commerce industry has also increased the demand for product authenticity in transit. Manufacturers are adopting advanced technologies such as holograms, QR codes, barcodes, RFID tags, and tamper evident seals on an increasingly widespread basis to combat counterfeiting. Government regulations and its initiatives such as record initiation of track and trace mechanism in pharmaceuticals guzzle, mandatory labeling standardization in certain sectors have also contributed positively to speeding growth of the market.
The “Make in India” campaign has attracted local manufacturing and innovation to the ACP market. There is a growing investment by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the packaging industry in the development of the cutting-edge technologies to provide affordable and scalable solutions. Also, as Indian goods are being exported on a large scale, the sector is pushed to follow international anti-counterfeit packaging standards. Despite these opportunities, challenges like high implementation cost and limited certificate and authentication technologies awareness under the consumer base continue. However, the gaps between efforts to educate stakeholders and cost-effective solutions will be bridged.
