The seed industry in India is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 12 percent by 2028, surpassing a market size of $12 billion. As agriculture gets commercialized and private and public sectors come together, the seed industry is undergoing a revolution. New technologies such as hybrid breeding are being adopted to enhance crop yield and the government is supporting farmers with new initiatives. However, the farmers looking to buy seeds continue to have some key expectations from seed companies. They expect the seeds to be free from diseases and contaminants and seek varieties that can flourish in their specific region. In addition, they want the seeds to have a track record of high yields and resistance to pests.
This is where Vardaan Biotech (VBL) comes into the picture to fulfill these expectations of farmers. VBL offers an extensive range of improved varieties/hybrids of various crops, supported by efficient, cost-effective seed production technologies. It provides an extensive range of hybrid as well as licensed products with clear specifications of the expected yield.
It also conducts new product evaluation trials continuously to select the most suitable product for every specified agro-climate zone in the country. Owing to its proven standard of quality, the company was awarded with ‘Fastest Growing Indian Company Excellence Award’ in the year 2017. “We are working on a pan-India basis having our existence in more than 11 states and continuously making strides towards expanding our reach domestically and even globally in the upcoming years,” says Lokendra Singh Rajput, Managing Director of the company Leveraging his agricultural knowledge, academic qualifications, and astute business acumen, Lokendra has rapidly established himself and the company in the seed industry. He is a first-generation entrepreneur, leading the company to achieve recognition, including the 'Fastest Growing Indian Company Excellence Award' and 'Outstanding Achievement Award for Business Excellence.'
One-Stop Hub for Hybrid Seeds
The company's reach is strategically diversified across all four zones in India: East, West, North, and South. This comprehensive coverage offers a strong shield against uncertainties and natural calamities, ensuring that VBL's business remains unaffected by unforeseen events or natural disasters in any specific zone. Providing a wide range of hybrid seeds to dealers in one place offers significant opportunities for business expansion daily. VBL has partnerships with over 800 dealers in the seed industry nationwide. Among them, several dealers boast turnovers exceeding Rs.50 Crore, which not only benefits VBL’s business but also opens up avenues for its further expansion.
VBL has achieved its current position by overcoming several challenges. Its business relies heavily on natural climate conditions, leaving its seeds vulnerable to weatherrelated challenges that directly impact crop production. But VBL effectively manages these situations.
Moreover, to operate across states, the company must secure government approvals, which is a complex process. Each hybrid seed variety must go through three years of trials in every state for licensing.
Maintaining the product range is demanding, with each hybrid variety requiring tailored care based on geographical, climatic, and yield factors. By building enduring dealer relationships, VBL has been able to assure dealers about its diverse product range for longterm partnerships.
“At Vardaan Biotech, we prioritize teamwork, fostering a positive environment that fuels our business growth and adds value for all stakeholders. This synergy has been the foundation of our continuous expansion from day one. We cultivate an atmosphere that empowers teams to excel in their respective roles by promoting a culture of continuous learning and development. Presently, our workforce, comprising over 100 dedicated members, is the driving force behind our growth. Our leadership team has extensive experience in the seed and crop production industry, further supporting our journey,” adds Lokendra Singh Rajput.
