There is nothing more adventurous than setting sail for one destination and reaching somewhere completely different. It was as early as 1854, when Heinrich Witzenmann started out as a jeweler but ended up creating a legacy in one of the revolutionary technologies that derives a modern day expansion joint. However, the technology was limited to the jewelry industry until early 1950s after which it was adapted by various other core sectors of the business ecosystem.
The year 1980 witnessed the commercial inception of expansion joints replacing saw dusts placed in between concrete joints. The efficiency increased by 76% and prevented crack formation and allowed free movement. Expansion joints hold the key in defining how a building material responds to temperature induced variations. The transition of millennium witnessed disruptive changes in expansion joint manufacturing practices with the invention of the The Sinus slide solution then the Cosnius floor concept and finally the stability verification Cosinus slide.
Precise Engineers make Expansion joints are renowned as good quality and best workmanship product. The company has been dedicated to enhancing its capacity and capability with client-centric improvements since its journey that started two decades ago. Precise can conduct destructive and nondestructive tests as per the Code and develop thick Bellows without circumferential weld for Shell and Tube type Heat Exchangers. Stringent Quality norms, knowledge about the industrial evolutions and a keen technological eye with a reliable industry experience are the major factors influencing the clients/ consultant preference in this manufacturing sector.
Rajesh Dhruv, the Managing Director of Precise Engineers, says, “We can supply Expansion Joint with any size/pressure/temperature/Material of Construction/ type/corner joint, etc. along with supply Expansion Joint for break-down with minimum downtime. We can help developing models along with graphs to select a proper model/save time for issuance of enquiry/evaluating offers which is a very serious man-hour cost to every organization. At Precise, we have received the lowest 0.5% customer complaints per year.”
Globally Compliant Products Rajesh continues, “We are capable of import substitution for any Expansion Joints imported in the past, and are also capable of offering complete piping stress analysis and suggesting the best type of Expansion Joint.” However, the increasing presence of manufacturers and traders is creating a huge quality rift in terms of products that should be clear to clients. It may lead to product failures in performance and deliver its genuine utility. Precise has always thrived on developing and delivering consumer-centric solutions in a budget-friendly space without diminishing the quality of this highly sensitive product.
A presentation held by Precise Engineers in a Technical Development Annual Meet of IOCL, Haldia helped it bag import substitution of FCCU Expansion Joint supplied by M/s. Pathways, USA (now Senior Flexonics). Before this development, the client wants Pathways to visit and help replace. However, Pathways demanded the following facilities to visit IOCL, Haldia, against which Pathways demanded business class air-fare, 5-star Hotel bookings and payment of the manhours for the workshop in USD from the client. Rajesh recalls, “We developed universal expansion joint in place of single expansion joint
from available Inconel material in India and supplied to them at a very low cost/delivery compared to import price plus substantial import duty. After successful installation and performance, IOCL placed an order for four more FCCU Expansion Joints for replacement originally supplied by Pathways, USA. All the Expansion Joints were supplied at almost 30% of the import landed price by saving 70% in one expansion joint multiplied by four more ended up saving a few crores by IOCL.”
Key Differentiators
Precise Engineers is among the leading three Indian companies concerning its aggregate experience, quick response system, top-notch quality and performance driven products. It is renowned for designing and developing products for the most critical applications in Refineries, Steel, Fertilizer, Power, Cement, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Textiles, Water & Wastewater and Irrigation sectors. Precise has successfully conducted destructive testing per the Latest Edition of the EJMA Code for various material sizes. Precise is backed by the promoter with over four decades of legacy in testing and manufacturing various expansion joints. It has supplied over 50000 expansion joints in various sectors. It has received more than 100 orders from a significant consumer base that ensures its long-standing consumer relationship and trustworthy market credibility.
Rajesh adds, “We have developed Expansion Bellows for highest pressure of 3700 psi (design pressure) for M/s. Chevron, USA and received repeat orders after a very good performance. We have developed Expansion Bellows for MRPL/EIL with the latest refractory as per UOP Specification against world-renowned manufacturer M/s. Senior Flexonics (Pathways), the USA with destructive testing under third party covering Inconel 625 Material. After having very good performance end User M/s. MRPL has placed spare order on us, is a sign of satisfaction for most critical application. We have developed Oval Expansion Joint for GSFC for the first time under Lloyds inspection for the highly corrosive service of the sulphuric acid plant, which EIL designed. These Bellows have been supplied with repeat orders.” Precise is expected to receive U stamp certification from Lloyds this year and has been an OEM supplier of significant and renowned MNC’s for 25years. The company is already a member of AWS, CII, EEPC, GCCI and EEPC etc. Precise is driven by identifying the core area for improvement and achieving it simultaneously being focused on product quality and customer service.

The major market offerings by Precise Engineers include Metallic Expansion bellow joint, Dismantling joint, Telescopic expansion joint, Rubber bellows, Flange adaptor, Fabric bellows, Damper, Zero velocity valve and Dual plate check valve. It has been the developer of a customized Inline Pressure Balance Expansion Joint for application in a power plant in an export order. Precise has developed a Turbine Cross Over Expansion Joint for the overseas manufacturer of turbines. It has created an externally pressurized type expansion joint with 250mm axial movement. Precise software uses covers hidden consideration of systems or human resources behaviour. It can replace Bellows of Shell and Tube type Heat Exchangers without dismantling HE and in-situ position.
Rajesh recalls, “In one instant when we have to supply 500 NB – 33 bellows within ten days to Thermax and to safeguard the interest of customer all the contractors as well as staff members were on the floor and supplied the material as committed within the required time. This incident took place with Thermax for their Heat Recovery Division. After attending this crucial requirement, Thermax awarded a 3-year rate contract to our company.” Precise has been a participant in Globally acclaimed exhibition in Hannover, SMM, Hamburg in Germany. Pump & Valves, Singapore, Powergen International, Orlando, ADIPEC, Abu Dhabi, Wetex, Dubai, Shanghai, China, and South Africa, Mexico, Indonesia and Turkey, to name a few of its participation.

Looking at the Future
Precise Engineers started operations in 1994 and achieved an approximate turnover of 4lacs in the initial year. However, it had been consistently growing in terms of revenue, profit and consumer base and is currently operating at an annual turnover of 15Cr. Rajesh adds, “Our team is highly dedicated and loyal to the organization, which helped the company to meet expectations of our valued clients as well as company’s growth. We are focused on introducing automation as far as possible to avoid human error. We have decided to increase manufacturing facilities to match with delivery commitments.
This year we have added manufacturing facilities to achieve a target of 25 crore for which booking is already on hand.” Precise is trying to introduce technological partners that will increase its efficiency in covering major overseas markets alongside developing more capable vendors for ease of procurement in major items. It plans to introduce more welfare schemes for its employees and deploy its engineers for skillset enhancement through further training. Precise is focused on creating new designs along with new developmental updates for expansion joints.
