The global market for pine-derived chemicals reached a value of $5.5 billion in 2022 and is anticipated to touch a worth of $6.8 billion by 2027, registering a CAGR of 4.5 percent. The growth in this space has been jacked up by increasing consumers’ inclination towards environment friendly products as pine chemicals are known to be beneficial in lowering carbon footprint. Hence, the utilization of pine derivatives is on the rise along with their expanding range of application across industries like food & beverage, adhesive, beauty, footwear and automobile tyres in India and all over the globe as well. However, the irregular supply of quality pine chemicals and inconsistency in conforming to better quality standards are two major drawbacks prevalent in the Indian pine chemical market. This is where Midhills has emerged as an eminent producer of quality rosin and pine-derived materials and has structured its business operation in such a way that caters to the consumer needs in timely fashion.
Since its inception in 1984, in the city of Solan, Himachal Pradesh, Midhills started off with resin extraction and later established in-house manufacturing facility for gum rosin and turpentine oil in 2010 in order to attend the specific needs of the clients with special attention to quality and uninterrupted supply chain of their products.
The company has incorporated latest technology in their manufacturing infrastructure in order to deliver the client’s orders in both small and large volumes.
Array of Products
The foundation of Midhills are enriched with a workforce of experienced professionals who ensure that the wide range of the company’s product offerings are of superior quality and are manufactured in compliance with the quality standards of the concerned regulatory bodies. While gum rosin and turpentine oil are their forte, Midhills have diversified into pine derivatives, turpentine oil and rosin derivatives including ester gum, pine oil and terpineol. The pine oil they offer is available with different concentration of cyclic terpene alcohols (22 percent, 50 percent, 70 percent, 85 percent) for a large variety of applications such as washing agent, disinfectant, germicide, polishing agent, mineral floatation agent, painting solvent and anti-rust agent.
The pine oils with 50 percent and 70 percent cyclic terpene alcohol are phenolic disinfectants, effective against several bacterial strains and enveloped viruses. In order to ease the business operation and modify the entire system for better output Midhills has compartmentalised their production process in several sectors such as production unit, quality testing lab and R&D. Sumit Sood, Director at Midhills adds, “The main factors that positioned us distinctly in the marketplace are our consistency in delivering quality and regularity. We have heavily invested in our manufacturing facility while having a state-of-art R&D sector alongside. This enables us to work towards the innovation of new products and new ways to improvise our means of production so that we can serve the customers more efficiently”.

Looking Ahead
Midhills has become able to enhance their production capacity from 1 ton to 20 tonnes on a daily basis through the aid of technological advancements and the commitment to quality. Currently they are planning to enhance their capacity of producing pine chemicals. “We have installed the capacity to produce 50 tonnes of gum rosin and turpentine oil per day and we are looking to utilize it in a full-fledged manner. For pine derivatives, we are expanding the production capacity to 30 tonnes per day in the next two to three months”, Sood concludes.
