The TMT steel bar market in India is undergoing exponential growth and is poised to record an overall 12 percent increment by 2033. Growing infrastructure projects, the development of smart cities, industrial corridors, and affordable housing options are a key driving force propelling the industry. Recycling policies that enable steel production from scrap are expected to impact the industry further, driving down prices. Over the past four decades, the industry has recorded remarkable growth, with the international import of steel dropping from 75 percent to a mere four to five percent of the total domestic consumption.
However, the industry has a long way to go in addressing challenges associated with transport costs and quality considerations. Jumbo TMX, an industry trailblazer and veteran with over 45 years of experience, is addressing these challenges strategically. With state-of-the-art factories in Haryana, Jaipur, and Surat, the company is a key partner in providing international quality standard steel TMT bars, manufactured using cutting-edge technologies from around the world, at minimal transport costs.
Cutting-Edge Products
Catering to a diverse range of applications, particularly construction, Jumbo TMX produces an array of high-quality steel TMT bars in line with various grade standards prescribed by the Indian authorities such as the Fe500, Fe500D, Fe550, and Fe550D. Under these different grades, the company manufactures bars in various sizes ranging from 8mm to 32mm. Jumbo TMX employs sophisticated technologies from Korea and Germany such as quenching technology, tungsten technology, and its melting shop from the US to create its various products.
“Our mission has always been to exceed expectations and push boundaries. We specialize in crafting a wide range of steel products, including ingots, billets, MS angles, channels, girders, and TMT steel bars. However, our commitment goes beyond mere production; it is deeply rooted in our unwavering dedication. Our steel bars are manufactured from hot-rolled billets, ensuring durability and strength in structural projects. These products meet stringent quality standards, making them a reliable choice for construction projects of all sizes”, shares Shubham Jindal, Chief Marketing Officer, Jumbo TMX.
These product standards reflect the strength, stability, and purity of the steel, which in turn helps define its best application avenues. However, there is a significant challenge that Jumbo is striving to address in this regard. Highlighting how the steel grade identifications (like 500, and 550) indicate the minimum required standards, Shubham explains how local players often downplay the necessity of going for higher-strength bars, which can have a catastrophic impact on clients. Nevertheless, Jumbo exceeds the minimum standard requirements (which, for instance, in the case of Fe 550 bars minimum required flexibility is 10.5 percent, but Jumbo offers 20+ percent) to deliver stronger and more stable products. This critical information yet left out, is being relayed by the company to key construction professionals like architects, enabling them to make better choices for building strength and stability.
360-Degree Quality Control
Jumbo TMX’s products stand out for their exceptional quality which is achieved through an intensive multiple-point quality control system. Starting with raw material chemical testing and spectrometer testing, the next measure undertaken by Jumbo is molten metal chemical and temperature check followed by 100 percent accurate chemical testing from the spectrometer, mechanical and chemical testing for the billet after the casting of molten metal, then yield stress, tensile strength, elongation, ys/ts ratio, AR value and bend-rebend test for every batch of TMT bars.
The TMT bars undergo 12 quality check tests across all five phases in total, along with a final check right before dispatch.
The implication of a 100 percent automatic integrated mill helps in following a thorough 11-step manufacturing process to produce these bars. The process starts with scrap collection and sorting, followed by iron ore sampling. The materials are then moved to the alloy blend mixing phase post which, the induction melting and ladle transfer pouring processes take place. This is followed by continuous casting, billet hot charging, and rolling process, after which the TMT bars are left to cool before the products are stockpiled and finally orders are dispatched. This exhaustive process enables the firm to guarantee the quality of products, while also ensuring at every step that the strength and purity remain under control.
“Our exceptional team of leaders and engineers consistently strive to elevate standards and enhance quality. Our incorporation of Tungsten technology from Korea has allowed us to produce higher quality and higher strength TMT bars. Although this comes at additional costs, the rib pattern on TMT bars (essential for stronger bonds with concrete) and standardization of products are highly improved and we can produce 2000 tons of TMT bars from one roll pass compared to 100 tons by other local manufacturers. Moreover, our use of German Thermax technology puts us as a preferred choice among builders", further shares Shubham.
Apart from the use of advanced techniques, the company also stands out for its completely integrated manufacturing facilities, through which Jumbo TMX undertakes the complete manufacturing process including producing its billets to form the TMT bars. Sourcing raw and scrap materials of over 95 percent purity from leading manufacturers from Kutch, Billari, the UK, and Poland, to name a few, Jumbo invests in assuring product quality from the get-go.
Apart from manufacturing controlled products, the company also stands out as a sustainable steel TMT bars manufacturer as it capably recycles products and uses a lot of scrap metals in the production of its offerings. Moreover, its manufacturing process releases only 5 Kgs of CO2 per ton of steel produced which is significantly lower as compared to other major industry players which produces 2 tons of CO2 emission per ton of steel produced.
Future Journey
With a legacy of over 45 years in the industry, Jumbo has grown exponentially and carved a unique place for itself. The firm has grown its presence across four major Indian states and currently serves as a leading supplier of steel products including TMT bars, structural steel, and various other products. Ensuring high-quality products each time, the firm has created an enviable position where construction companies that buy products from Jumbo once, do not go anywhere else and are even willing to wait for product deliveries.
