With the global increase in population coupled with the rising per capita disposable incomes, the consumption of processed foods has increased multifold. Hence, it's pointless to say that the food processing industry is poised to expand on a global scale. In India, the food processing industry has a great influence on the country’s economy as it covers a wide spectrum of products across agriculture, horticulture, plantation, animal husbandry, fisheries, etc.
This opens up an enormous opportunity for growth of the industry. Food manufacturers are looking for high-quality equipment at affordable prices, with high levels of product safety coupled with engineering functionality.
With nearly 30 years of unrivaled experience, Gem Machinery and Allied Industries has been working on numerous turnkey projects for tea factories, driers, and drying solutions for spices, chemicals, food goods, herbal ingredients, nutraceuticals, and other products.
The organization has been offering a comprehensive solution right from modeling, concept design, and experimental research, building up of pilot model plants, data validation, comprehensive design engineering to value engineering, and fabrication of the entire plant & machinery. Gem machinery is currently present in over 60 countries due to its expertise in the field.
“Our greatest strength is the caliber of our design team, which is led and supported by eminent mechanical engineering faculty and scholars from leading institutions across the country. Moreover, we have technical support and channel business partners established in more than 35 countries.
We also send our engineers overseas for installation and commissioning and testing of our supplied equipment,” says NishantGarg, Managing Director at Gem Machinery.
Gem Machinery with its customer-centric approach believes in customizing each possible aspect of a machine to assist clients in achieving the necessary efficiency and productivity across operations.
Latitude Withering Machines from Gem - changing the game of the tea industry.
“We are India’s first company to make the Continuous Chemical Withering Machine (CCW) for the tea industry - Stainless Steel Tray and chain and sprocket type.
Our CCW tanks have the capacity to hold up to 35000 kgs of leaf in a single tank. We have specially designed double impeller fans with high static pressure to ensure that there is no scorching of leaf in the tank.
The discharge from the Chemical withering machine (after storage) will be sent to the Physical withering machine CPW where the reduction in moisture will take place, gradually."

Mr. Nishant has also added some very important points which all tea processing plants should consider regarding the usage of this machine as well as for tea processing –
•Maximum process air temperature in the CPW should be 38 to 40 deg C, so the leaf temperature never exceeds 34 to 35 deg C.
•Moisture reduction within the CPW must be for MINIMUM 3 hours, to allow for gradual (NOT rapid) reduction in moisture.
•The total belt area in the CPW is directly linked to the productivity of your Drier. Higher the output of the Drier, higher the belt area required in the CPW.
•The CPW must have an insulated top plenum chamber to allow for heat energy to be trapped within the system, this will result in considerable savings in steam and fuel energy.
•The three circuits on the CPW must be truly independent to allow flexibility in residence time of leaf on the belt.
This will give better controls on the withered leaf discharge rate at the desired moisture content. This information is very crucial and helpful for the Tea Processing Industry.
