Onshore and Offshore Oil & Gas industry is looking very positive in the current scenario. We have felt that, India with its long coastal line, have been underutilised in terms of offshore oil & gas industry. We have a great potential in this area. Recent developments from the government show that they are seriously considering tapping the potential in this area. For marine consultants, major challenges have always been the tight competitions. Moreover, the software used in this field is very costly. We used to depend on software on rented/hired option, but these options are also expensive. Detailed planning and proper utilisation of available resources are the keys in overcoming the challenges.
“We are primarily a maritime consulting company. However, we have shown strong presence is supporting roles in the oil & gas industry. We have been involved in the design of various sub-structures like portable containers, lifting beams, pipe/cable laying support structures etc. We could support our clients with technical support, liaising with authorities for approval and even supporting during construction stages,” states Girish Menon, Director, S&O Maritime.
“The company was established in March 2014. We have turned from one man company to 20 person company within 6 years and our annual turnover crossed a Crore rupees in very short span of time. We have been catering our clients spread over different countries such as UAE, Qatar, Bahrain,
Tanzania and the Netherlands. This is in addition to our clients in India. We are part of APT Global Marine whose Headquarters in Dubai. APT Global Marine with its strategic locations in the middle east and the Netherlands, we are able to cater our clients in the region”, adds Girish.

“Our first aim is to equip ourselves to cater the latest requirements from the industry. We have a pool of experienced and knowledgeable staff who are ready to take up the projects. Covid19 scenario has taught us on how we can utilise the modern technologies to the best of our requirements. Video conferencing have reduced the cost and time required for travels for business meetings. Effectiveness of online meetings against face to face meeting is still a point of debate, but we are getting used to these changes”, says Girish.
Future Projections
Currently S&O Maritime Services has about 20 direct employees and also employ people on contract basis as and when required. Their work force includes Naval Architects, Structural Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and draughtsmen.
“We are currently in the process of capitalising on the dredger design/construction industry. We are in discussion with major shipyards in India and abroad in this regard. Our staff is being trained specially on this field so that they be of direct help to our clients. We can always add specialists in this field who can be flown in at any time,” concludes the Director.
