Founded in 2007, Pinaka set out to fulfill an unmet need in the Indian defence and aerospace market for a company that translates state-of-the-art technologies to field-deployable products and solutions to meet the operational requirements of the armed forces. That ethos started with the very inception of the company when Radhika Pasumarthi, then a senior scientist and Young Scientist award recipient of the DRDO and Subodh Sharma, then an officer of the IAF, discussed how the coming together of defence technologists and ops-aware service personnel jointly conceiving solutions was the need of the hour.
Pinaka today has over 100 engineers engaged in the development of niche technologies, building of battle-ready and airworthy products, and the delivery of multiple services. Being CEMILAC, AS9100D and DGAQA certified, Pinaka has consistently shown an ability to deliver to the highest norms of quality and reliability.
The company prides itself as one of the few in the defence and aerospace segment meeting the full-spectrum of the market’s needs, from services to technologies to products and solutions. Pinaka offers services such as Independent Verification and Validation of critical software systems and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul of airborne hardware to the armed forces and defence PSUs. Some of the niche technologies Pinaka has developed helped in the indigenization of mission-critical sea-borne, ground-based and airborne systems. Pinaka’s products such as automatic testers, test jigs and simulators provide critical support for several of IAF’s platforms like the LCA Tejas, the Su-30 MKI, Jaguar and several other transport, trainers
and fighter aircraft. Through offerings such as alignment system for missiles, Pinaka has shown the ability to be an end-to-end provider of solutions that encompass RF, hardware, software, electrical and mechanical systems.
Pinaka has several feathers in its cap. Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi’s commendation for the development of OSA-AK SAM-8 missile’s alignment system for the IAF ranks at the top. But there are several others including the Outstanding Vendor award from Bharat Electronics Ltd., at the Defence Industry meet held in Chennai under the auspices of former Raksha Mantri, Smt. Nirmala Sitaraman. Pinaka is proud that it has been able to count among its customers every constituent of the Indian defence market – the Armed Forces, production agencies such as Defence PSUs, R&D organizations like DRDO and ADA, as well as large tier-1 private companies, both Indian and foreign.
Pinaka’s goal is to empower and accelerate India’s defence capabilities through high-tech solutions unique to its needs
In keeping with its commitment to make one new technology investment every year, Pinaka is currently engaged in the design and development of Unmanned Aerial Systems and in Anti-UAV Defence Systems. Pinaka’s CEO, Gp Capt (Retd) Subodh Sharma, feels that these investments will soon bear fruit as more and more military and paramilitary applications manifest as payloads on UAVs, while simultaneously, Anti-UAV defence systems become the paramount element of homeland security deployments.
Radhika Pasumarthi, CEO, Pinaka Aerospace says that she is very excited by the thrust from the Government of India in endeavors to make India’s defence forces better equipped via initiatives like the Make in India for Defence. She feels enthusiastic about the encouragement in intellectual property creation with the evolution of the defence procurement procedure – a much needed boost to the SMEs in the defence sector.
“Pinaka’s goal is to empower and accelerate India’s defence capabilities through high-tech solutions unique to its needs,” said Ms. Pasumarthi. “We have created, nurtured and grown Pinaka because we believed in the development of indigenous technology to improve efficacy of our armed forces. We have consistently shown the market that this trend is not only important, but mission critical for any country to be relevant in the current socio-economic scenario. We are committed to enabling our valued customers – India’s defence forces, the DRDO and Defence PSUs - become dominant players via our solutions.”
