Assam Power Development Corporation has awarded three solar projects totaling Rs. 1,900 crore to the state-owned SJVN Ltd. These projects, totaling 320 MW in capacity, will be built, owned, and operated by an SJVN subsidiary called SGEL. According to a company release, "The SJVN has received separate Letters of Awards (LoA) for carrying out three solar projects with a combined capacity of 320 MW from Assam Power Development Corporation Ltd (APDCL)."
The SJVN took part in three different tariff-based competitive bidding tenders of APDCL for solar projects with capacities of 50 MW, 70 MW, and 200 MW. The 50 MW and 70 MW solar projects, which will be built under the solar park category, have been allocated at a rate of Rs 3.92 per unit. With a cost of Rs 3.90 per unit, the third solar project with a 200 MW capacity will be built anywhere in Assam.
SJVN will develop each project through its fully-owned subsidiary SGEL on a build-own-operate basis. The SJVN solar and wind project portfolio has surpassed 5 GW for the current financial year. According to the statement, these initiatives are anticipated to produce 628 million green energy units in the first year and 14,591 million units of energy overall during a 25-year period.
It added that upon commissioning, the projects, which will cost Rs 1,900 crore to build, are anticipated to decrease 7.14 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions. After the Power Purchase Agreements are signed, the solar projects will take 18 months to commission; they are anticipated to do so by March 2025. It further stated that the PPA would be inked for 25 years with APDCL. Earlier, the SJVN and APDCL had agreed to form a joint venture business to develop 1,000 MW of floating solar power projects in the state.
