Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) is making a strategic foray into renewable energy (RE) equipment manufacturing, reinforcing its commitment to India’s clean energy sector. The company plans to establish an integrated solar manufacturing unit and a battery production facility, reflecting its focus on self-sufficiency and innovation in sustainable energy solutions.
To spearhead these ventures, RInfra has appointed Ivan Saha as CEO of Renewable Manufacturing and Mushtaque Hussain as CEO of Battery Manufacturing. The Solar Manufacturing Division, led by Saha, will focus on ramping up domestic solar panel and component production. Saha brings over 30 years of experience in semiconductors, solar technology, and device design, having previously worked with Vikram Solar and ReNew Power. Meanwhile, the Battery Manufacturing Division, headed by Hussain, will develop advanced energy storage solutions for grid applications and electric mobility. Hussain, with over 25 years of experience, has held key roles at Tesla and Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL).
This move aligns with Reliance Group’s broader renewable energy vision, spanning equipment manufacturing to solar power generation. RInfra, already a major player in metro rail, toll roads, and power distribution, is expanding into solar and battery storage to strengthen its role across the energy value chain.
Reliance Power is aggressively expanding its renewable portfolio through its subsidiaries. Reliance NU Energies Private Limited has appointed Mayank Bansal as CEO and Rakesh Swaroop as COO, reinforcing its leadership team. Another subsidiary, Reliance Nu Suntech Private Ltd, secured a 930 MW solar energy project with a battery energy storage system (BESS) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)—the largest single-location integrated solar and BESS project in Asia, with a minimum storage capacity of 465 MW/1,860 MWh.
Beyond India, Reliance Power is expanding its clean energy footprint internationally. The company is currently developing 1,270 MW of renewable projects in Bhutan, further strengthening its position in the sector.
With this strategic entry into renewable manufacturing, Reliance Infrastructure is set to play a pivotal role in India's transition to sustainable energy, contributing to the nation’s clean energy goals and global competitiveness in the sector.
