Polaris, an energy solutions provider, announced on Wednesday that it has been awarded a contract worth Rs 2,246 crore to deploy 2.2 million smart meters in West Bengal. This contract adds to Polaris' portfolio of orders, which now exceeds Rs 7,700 crore across various regions including Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Manipur, Bihar, and Ladakh.
The newly secured contract in West Bengal involves the installation of 2.2 million smart meters across the state. Polaris Smart Metering will be responsible for supplying, commissioning, installing, and maintaining these smart meters for consumers and system metering over the next decade. The meters will incorporate advanced technology, facilitating prepaid billing, real-time energy monitoring, accurate metering, and enhanced grid management capabilities.
The agreement for this project follows a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Own-Transfer (DBFOOT) model. Additionally, Polaris has also obtained a contract worth Rs 206 crore for smart meter installation in Manipur, specifically in the Imphal region, to deploy over 1.6 lakh smart meters.
Earlier in January, Polaris secured a Rs 5,200 crore contract for smart meter installation in Uttar Pradesh, targeting the deployment of over 5.1 million smart meters.
These initiatives aim to reduce losses for distribution companies (discoms) and empower consumers by introducing smart prepaid meters, enabling them to monitor and manage their energy consumption more effectively.
Polaris, headquartered in Jaipur, specializes in the manufacturing and implementation of smart metering projects.
