MediaTek has officially launched its new flagship smartphone chipset, the Dimensity 9400, designed to enhance edge-AI applications, immersive gaming experiences, and exceptional photography capabilities. The first smartphones equipped with this advanced chip are set to hit the market in Q4 2024, according to the company. The Dimensity 9400 is reported to offer 35% faster single-core performance and 28% faster multi-core performance compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300. This chipset is built using TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, which enhances its power efficiency by up to 40%, allowing for longer battery life for users.
As the fourth iteration in MediaTek’s flagship mobile System on Chip (SoC) lineup, the Dimensity 9400 brings significant performance improvements through its second-generation ‘All Big Core’ architecture, which is built on Arm’s v9.2 CPU framework. This design, combined with cutting-edge GPU and Neural Processing Unit (NPU) technologies, promises to deliver high performance while maintaining energy efficiency.
Joe Chen, President of MediaTek, highlighted the company’s commitment to AI development, stating that the new chip aims to enable applications that intuitively adapt to user preferences. He also mentioned its role in advancing generative AI technologies, including on-device LoRA training and video generation.
According to Chen, the Dimensity 9400 not only continues to enhance MediaTek's market share but also upholds the company's tradition of providing high-performance chips with efficient designs. Moreover, the new chipset is engineered to support the latest generative AI applications, boasting up to 80% faster performance for large language model (LLM) prompts while being 35% more power efficient than the previous model.
MediaTek is collaborating with developers to create a unified interface that integrates AI agents, third-party APKs, and models, facilitating seamless operation between edge AI and cloud services. This initiative underscores MediaTek's commitment to fostering innovation in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
