Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) has acquired BIS certification to develop India's First Fire Resistant Steel Buildings in its Rail Mill & Special Profile Mill in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. Hot-rolled structural steel that complies with IS 15103 can withstand temperatures of up to 600 degrees Celsius for a maximum of three hours and is suitable for use in hot or flammable environments.
Designing fire protection for steel structures has proven difficult. Structures will be designed more effectively as a result of the availability of fire
resistant steel. Steel structures for infrastructure projects such as industrial structures, refineries, bridges, metro projects, steel & power plants, as well as in hospitals, commercial and residential buildings, will be made using the new BIS 15103 grade. Mr. Bimlendra Jha, the managing director of Jindal Steel & Power, said: "India's infrastructure and safety standards would be strengthened thanks to the licence granted to Jindal Steel & Power to produce fire resistant steel. Building a more secure AtmaNirbhar Bharat would require the much-needed certainty that comes from fire resistant steel ".
In the Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi, a ceremony honouring the BIS certifications was held in conjunction with the observance of World Consumer Rights Day. Jindal Steel & Power was legally awarded a licence during the ceremony, which was officiated by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon'ble Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles.
