The government is planning to launch the first stage of the concessions for firms to set up Green Hydrogen facilities very soon, Power and Renewable Energy minister R K Singh said today.
"We have the approval of the National Hydrogen Mission on the anvil. We will be issuing the first stage of the orders of the concessions to be given for Green Hydrogen like free transmission and banking very soon. This will indicate the facilities to be available for those who want to make Green Hydrogen," he said.
He added that the government will then announce the second tranche of facilities after the Hydrogen Mission document is approved by the Union Cabinet. "So, we will be a world leader in Green Hydrogen. We expect to become a hub for the export of Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia to other countries," he said.
Singh also said in order to boost solar equipment manufacturing the government had launched the first PLI scheme with an outlay of Rs 4,500 crore and based on that a manufacturing capacity of around 8,730 MW has been finalized covering the
entire chain from polysilicon to modules. The government has sanctioned additional Rs 19,500 crore for a second PLI scheme for manufacturing of Advanced Chemistry PV Cells and Modules of higher efficiency.
"We have kept a floor of 24 per cent of efficiency in this. So, we are going to come out with another PLI bid which will be around 4-5 times the size of the first bid. The second bid would be for a capacity of around 40,000 Mw. We want to emerge as a country that is not only self-sufficient in high efficiency PV cells and modules but also is an export hub," he said.
The minister also said the government has brought out a PLI scheme for battery storage in India which has already received huge response. The first bid resulted in response of about 50 GW capacity of storage.
"But that will not be sufficient. As against the developed nations, India's initial bid is for 1,000 MW Hour for the National Load Dispatch Centre. Another 3,000 MW Hour has been bid out by NTPC. And this is just the start. So, our volumes will be huge. A bulk of what we are going to do would be based on solar," Singh said.
It is an exclusive platform for the solar industry leaders to discuss and debate upon the crucial issues and trends emerging in the solar power sector. The two day virtual event is being hosted in partnership with Hero Future Energies, Swelect Energy Systems, Hitachi Energy, Jinko Solar, FIMER, Trina Solar, O2 Power and IGEF.
Apart from Singh, other leaders participating in the event include Suman Sharma, Managing Director, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Ajay Mathur, Director General, International Solar Alliance; Ruchin Gupta, Additional Commissioner, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance; Manu Srivastava, Principal Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh; Rajnath Ram, Adviser - Energy, NITI Aayog; Upendra Pande, Managing Director, Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation; and Mohit Bhargava, Executive Director, RE, NTPC Ltd and CEO, NTPC Renewable Energy.
