The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder, which Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. claims were produced locally, have been
authorised by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation under the Indian Technical Standard Order (ITSO) (FDR). CVR and FDR are frequently referred to as "black boxes." To aid in their recovery following an aircraft disaster, these recorders are tinted orange.
The ITSO is a minimum performance requirement for specified materials, parts, processes, and appliances used on civil aircraft, said HAL in a letter.
It was mentioned that the use of CVR and FDR is utilised to capture crucial flight characteristics and the acoustic environment in a crash proof memory that is afterwards used for an investigation of an aircraft incident or accident.
