The central government has given its nod for the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to be implemented in the Union Territory of Ladakh at a sanctioned cost of Rs 687.05 crore. According to them, the RDSS received approval from the ministry of power for installation in Ladakh. Tsewang Paljor, the chief engineer for
distribution at the Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD), and A. K. Gahlot, the executive director of WAPCOS Limited, signed a contract in the presence of Ravinder Kumar, the administrative secretary for power in Ladakh.
The plan includes further loss reduction projects in the Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh, as well as the downline infrastructure in the Zanskar region and the grid connectivity of the Changthang region. The designation of WAPCOS, a project of the Indian government, as the project management organisation (PMA) for the implementation of the RDSS in Ladakh was also accepted by the minister of power.
The Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme offers result-linked financial assistance to DISCOMs for the upgrading of supply infrastructure in order to increase operational efficiencies and financial sustainability, contingent upon completing pre-qualifying requirements and attaining fundamental minimum benchmarks.
