Clean air on the road is the latest craze among car buyers in India's big cities, who are struggling with deteriorating air quality that is causing concern in homes and public spaces. The Air Quality Index or AQI was 469, 353 and 157 in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai, respectively, on Nov 9.
According to car manufacturers, the demand for cars equipped with an air cleaner is increasing, and consumers are choosing variants equipped with this feature for safe commuting between home and office, where air filters are becoming standard. The three major car manufacturers - Hyundai, Kia and Tata Motors - offer factory-installed air cleaners in their vehicles, while Maruti Suzuki offers them as optional equipment for customers.
Tata Motors, a domestic brand, has just introduced air purifiers in the Nexon EV, Harrier, and Safari SUVs. They have seen a significant increase in demand for these models from cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Bengaluru.
