According to a report published by the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), India’s logistics sector is estimated to account for about 14.4 percent of GDP and currently, more than 22 million people rely on it for their income. Technology has been a key player in the growth of this industry. With the development of advanced ERP and supply chain solutions, many entrepreneurs have created disruption in this industry. However, problems like correct process determination, lack of flexibility in systems, cost involvement and gaps in project management are faced by clients while availing services from a provider. Suresh Kadam’s Nikhil Logistics stands apart with its state of the art ERP solution which is devoid of any technical malfunction that is most advanced in the Indian logistics segment.
His experience and expertise also adds value to the services offered by his company. As a first-generation business owner, Suresh Kadam has to address every professional function within the organization from top to bottom. There a many milestones that he has achieved, but the most important one is the trust of doing business that he has gained in market place and validation among clients.
With limited resources and after completing his education as a B.Com graduate, he worked as a logistics coordinator with an automobile dealer from where onwards he gradually gained the experience with the help from his senior Mallkani who acted as a coach and guided him to become an aspiring leader. One day an opportunity strike and his senior inspired him to start a business in the logistics industry. “As a business leader running a business comes with many challenges without which success has no meaning.
The important business challenges faced today are uncertainty, globalization, complexity, information overload, strategic thinking and many more”, he states.
Overcoming Challenges
Today there is a big discomfort in global economy, where every new regulation is creating a hoax environment among the business market; complexity in business activities due to rapid pace of change in technology where development of next generation of technology development is only a year away; information overload due to fast changing world and various available resources of information making strategic thinking and problem solving technique harder which lacks to resolve the hurdles within the organization. To overcome all these challenges, Suresh intends to rethink and experiment with the business strategies, create a strong team with positive attitude and communicate for long-term business objective by laying out a robust business model.
When an organization is being run, a leader has to take on many day-to-day responsibilities at least at initial days of business thus binding a leader to all basic knowledge across all aspects of business operations. “The expertise, I possess in logistics field is having ability to see a big picture and anticipate what could go wrong in the supply chain; I possess adaptability and flexibility to face the challenges; I possess being proactive with the team to drive company growth by seeking continuous improvement and development. Another important expertise I possess is financial management and emotional intelligent which is a core to any business, which let knows the business owner/leader that what direction the organization is heading”, he mentions.
Leadership Mantra
Strategic philosophy and democratic philosophy are the leadership philosophy mantra that Suesh adheres to inspire the workforce to perform better. He believes that everyone on the team has a specific duty to be perform and should participate in the growth process. He intends to share the responsibility with his team to maximize the workout put of every team member. He provides guidance as well respect to the team ideas with integrity, decisiveness and empathy. “Also, I believe that a constant change is only the pathway to forward, where I motivate my team on goal-setting and reward them for the achievement”, he says.
To cope-up and get aligned with the periodic change in the industry and technology, he communicates more with other business leaders and learn from their experiences and failure and adopt for the development. “I intend to research more for new business methodology and technologies and bring/hire the experts with whom a bridge is created for innovation and development. Also, I invest in up-skilling my knowledge and my team members as well to bolster my company growth”, he adds.
Future Endeavours
As the founder of Nikhil Logistics, he has discovered that building a vision entails not doing it all alone. It entails giving ones team members control over the vision. A vision needs to be client centric rather than organization centric so as to thrive for successful business andit needs to be talked about in detail and should be concise to team members rather than just handing over the puzzle pieces to team. “A leader needs to show a big picture, so that collaboratively it can be achieved to make business successful”, concludes Suresh Kadam.
