Take us through your education and past industry experience that has equipped you with the skills needed for business success.
After completing my MBA at the Faculty of Management Studies in New Delhi, I worked as a Business Development Manager from 2011 to 2015 in Bangalore and Delhi NCR. In 2015, I decided to resign from my full-time marketing role due to extensive travel commitments, prioritizing family time. With savings for the next five months and lots of uncertainty, I founded Planet Retail, focusing on software sales and services, which has now grown to generate an annual revenue of six to seven figures. In 2019, I initiated another startup targeting government projects in software automation and data entry. Concurrently, my main focus shifted to EVA2Z, a startup launched in September 2022, dedicated to scaling up electric mobility as a service. This endeavor occupies 95 percent of my time.
Additionally, I founded Gozipp Aviation, specializing in fleet charter services for helicopters and jets. While initially successful, operational challenges led to a temporary pause in operations to enhance end-to-end customer experiences. Currently, with a fleet of 350 Electric vehicles, we are actively expanding our operations in this rapidly growing business.
Share your proficiency in the electric vehicle (EV) sector and elaborate on your strategies for fostering company growth in this industry.
While exploring new business opportunities, I discovered that India hosts 13 out of the top 20 most polluted cities globally, including Delhi and Chennai. The primary contributor to this pollution is the transportation sector. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the temporary reduction in vehicular activity resulted in cleaner air and improved overall conditions. Witnessing this positive change and considering the detrimental impact of automobiles on air quality, I recognized the ongoing revolution towards sustainable energy vehicles, particularly electric vehicles (EVs). Believing in the scalability and environmental benefits of EVs, coupled with government initiatives promoting electric mobility, I decided to venture into the electric vehicle industry. The prospect of a business that is not only lucrative but also contributes positively to the environment, addressing issues like global warming, and air, and noise pollution, further motivated my entry into the electric mobility sector.
How do you inspire your team to improve performance, and what leadership philosophy guides your approach as a business leader?
The key principle that binds us is the alignment of values with our culture. Despite having a team of over 80 staff members, I believe in a mutual liking between the team and the individuals. If someone isn't finding fulfillment in their work, we communicate our identity, emphasize ongoing improvements, and highlight the collaborative nature of our small team. This philosophy is crucial in the dynamic landscape of the electric vehicle (EV) market, where EVA2Z and immobility are rapidly evolving. Maintaining a motivated team is paramount for a startup facing challenges, and hiring the right people is essential. In the event of a misfit, I ensure a smooth transition, encouraging the individual to explore other opportunities. In essence, success boils down to the team's energy; with an energetic team, overcoming challenges and achieving anything becomes possible.

What has been the most demanding business challenge you've faced in your career thus far, and how did you navigate through it?
Discussing our involvement in mobility, the primary challenge revolves around execution rather than demand since there is a consistent demand. Our focus is on providing gig workers, who may lack a credit history and eligibility for loans, with electric vehicles on a subscription model, with the vehicle costing one lakh rupees. The most significant challenge lies in selecting the right candidates and ensuring a mutually beneficial Know Your Customer (KYC) process. There were instances in the past when individuals took our vehicles and disappeared, posing a risk to our assets. However, through meticulous KYC processes and multiple verifications, we have significantly improved, achieving a success rate of 95-96 percent with all our vehicles now secured. This was a notable challenge in the past, but our approach has evolved for better results.
For aspiring business leaders, what guidance would you offer as a successful business leader yourself?
Over the past seven to eight years, my entrepreneurial journey has taught me that while the initial challenges are numerous and diverse, the key lies in focusing on long-term gains. Starting your venture in India involves navigating challenges from various quarters – clients, the system, suppliers, staff, and your team. It's crucial to approach entrepreneurship as a long journey, not getting disheartened by initial setbacks as things seldom work seamlessly at the start. As a Founder, maintaining a long-term vision is essential, and being prepared to confront challenges without losing heart is paramount. This perspective is crucial advice for aspiring entrepreneurs embarking on their startup journey.
