The government is advancing industrial corridor projects under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) to establish greenfield industrial areas, regions, and nodes. These projects aim to position India as a competitive global manufacturing and investment destination, according to Jitin Prasada, Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, the minister noted that Maharashtra has been a focus under the NICDP, with the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) and Dighi Port Industrial Area (DPIA) being key development projects.
The Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), conceptualized along the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), is another significant initiative. Within this corridor, the government has approved two projects proposed by the state governments—IMC Agra and IMC Prayagraj—in August 2024.
Regarding funding, the minister clarified that while no funds were released to MITL (Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area’s Special Purpose Vehicle) over the past three years, Rs. 3,000 crore has been provided by NICDIT as equity up to December 3, 2024, for developing trunk infrastructure in the SBIA project. This funding is critical for facilitating industrial growth and creating modern manufacturing hubs under the NICDP framework.
